GNS JAMMU, Dec : The State Government today ordered an inquiry into conversion of over 700 kanals of agriculture land for non-agriculture purpose and pressure used on farmers from various quarters to sell it to State Times Editor Raj Daluja alias Raji at village Raipur Jagir near Seri Rakwalan in Gho Manasan area under the jurisdiction of Kanachak police station.
A spokesman of the Revenue Department told the Excelsior that a `secret inquiry' has been ordered to find out how such a large chunk of agriculture land on Tawi river bed was managed by a non-agriculturist.
He confirmed that Raji or his wife Suman Daluja or any other family members didn't fall in the category fixed for sale of more than four kanals of agriculture land.
“Such a big sale of agriculture land can take place only between the agriculturists'', he said, adding that Raji or his family members didn't fall in any clause fixed for sale of agriculture land of more than four kanals.
According to local people, a number of them were coerced and forced by Raji using all kind of tactics to sell their land to him at just ` 3500 per kanal though rate of the land at that time was ` 35,000 per kanal.
"Some people, who were not ready to sell their land were pressurized through police and locked in Pouni Chak police post till they agreed to sell it to Raji'', they said.
Even a former Corporator of ruling party was forced to sell 43 kanals of his land to give large passage to land grabbed by Raji.
According to local people and then police officials, three Ministers were frequent visitors to the encroached land of Raji.
While one of them arranged water connections to the land, another was instrumental in plantations, the people said, adding another Minister, who was supposed to raise the issue and take action in conversion of agriculture land for commercial purposes, instead encouraged the encroacher by paying frequent visits to the land.
The local people, it may be mentioned, have complained to the Chief Minister demanding action against Raji for forcibly grabbing their agriculture land. They said many villagers were coerced and forced to sell their land.
The Revenue Department has, meanwhile, ordered an inquiry into Raji's attempt to encroach upon Government land at village Sikanderpur in Bishnah tehsil.
The Revenue officials have been asked to get the land vacated from the encroacher after the inquiry.
