Bridges bridge economic gaps: JKPCC make time line to completion of works: Omer


GNS JAMMU, FEBRUARY 13 : Underscoring the importance of connectivity in the process of economic development, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Monday asked the Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation (JKPCC) to make time line completion of works benchmark and maintenance of quality standard of its functioning. 
“Most prestigious work of construction of bridges in the State has been entrusted to JKPCC”, he said adding that bridges play an important role in creating a dependable communication system and bridging the economic gaps in remote and far-flung areas. 
The Chief Minister asked the JKPCC to come up to the expectations of the people and accomplish the task entrusted to it in professional manner ensuring quality and timeline completion of projects. 
Chairing the 86th Board of Directors meeting of JKPCC, Omar Abdullah said that the major bridges under execution in the State through JKPCC in different areas are of greater significance to connect various areas with main highways and provide ample opportunity to the people to generate wide-ranging economic activities. 
The Chief Minister said that road communication has been flagged one of the five important concerns by his Government and focused attention is on the construction and upgradation of road communication system in the State. 

The meeting was attended by Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister, B. B. Vyas, Principal Secretary R&B, K. B. Agarwal, Commissioner Secretary Health, G. A. Peer, Commissioner Secretary Agriculture, Naveen Agarwal, Managing Director, JKPCC, Madan Gupta, Chief Executive Officer, ERA, Chief Engineers, R&B from Kashmir and Jammu Divisions and other senior officers.
The meeting discussed matters relating to the action taken on decisions of the previous Board of Directors meeting, skill upgradation of work force in JKPCC, improvement of quality management grid in JKPCC and physical achievements registered. 
The Chief Minister laid stress on skill development and improvement of productivity of the work force in JKPCC. He also directed for establishment of quality control labs on all major projects being executed by JKPCC in the State.
In a PowerPoint presentation Managing Director, JKPCC, Madan Gupta informed the meeting that 12 important bridges including Shadipora, Khansahib, Hafroo, Baliharan, Zuhama, Punzgam, Muradpur and Naraian (Rajouri), Nagrota, Kathar, Ramnagar on Khu Nallah and Khagot Nallah have been completed this year so far while Kapran bridge at Anantnag, Paribal bridge at Hajjan in Bandipora and Mujgund bridge in Srinagar are being completed by the end of current financial year.
He said 28 bridges including Dal Gate bridge Phase-II, Maulana Azad bridge, Rambiara bridge at Shopian, Palpora Shaltang bridge, Foot bridge Palpora, Yachama Kangan bridge at Ganderbal, Sogam Badipora bridge at Budgam, Budran Goigam bridge at Budgam, Kangripora bridge at Budgam, Owngam Arwah bridge at Budgam, Pushwara bridge at Anantnag, Baniyar Hajan bridge at Bandipora, Hardbani Kunzar bridge at Baramulla, Tumina Chowkibal bridge at Kupwara, Drugmulla Hatmulla bridge at Kupwara, 4th Tawi bridge at Jammu, Mera Mandrian bridge over river Chenab at Akhnoor, Jhajjar Nallah bridge connecting SMVDU with National Highway, Motorable bridge connecting Nowshera to Hanjana, Thathri bridge at Thathri, Kanjali bridge at Reasi and Katal Batal bridge at river Tawi are being completed in the next financial year.
The Managing Director, JKPCC informed the meeting that the Corporation has obtained contracts for construction of bridge from Power Grid Corporation and a building for Ministry of Home Affairs amounting to Rs. 20 crores.
