NC led regime’s performance appears only on papers PDP led regime has carved out a path of peace, development in State: Mehbooba

GNS Udhampur : Calling upon the people to compare performance of PDP-Congress government with decades long mis-governance of successive National Conference (NC) regimes, president of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today said that in span of just three years, the PDP led regime had carved out a path of peace and equitable development in the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
“PDP-Congress regime had laid strong foundation of development in the state but the present regime has miserable failed to carry forward the agenda of equitable development”, Ms Mufti said while addressing an impressive public at Malhar village of Udhampur assembly segment which was organised by district president of PDP Sukhdev Sharma. In the meeting large number Sarpanches and Panches also joined the PDP and expressed faith in the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and Mehbooba Mufti.
Ms Mufti said that as far as the performance of the present regime was concerned, it appears only on papers and nothing concrete was visible on ground. “For the last three years functioning of this dispensation is appearing only on papers and at grassroots level not even a single promise has been so far implemented’, PDP president said and reminded the gathering that during campaign of the last assembly elections, National Conference had made a number of promises with the people but these promises are yet not translated into reality. “We will not remain a mute spectator to the misdeeds of the government”, she asserted and reiterated his solve to make PDP a voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
Highlighted achievements of PDP coalition in the State, she said that it was only during his three year regime equal treatment was given to all regions and sub-regions of the State. “Before formation of PDP led regime in 2002, there were complaints of discrimination and step motherly treatments with some regions”, she recalled and hastened to add, “PDP-Congress regime had not only removed these discrimination but also empowered Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh regions equally”.
Exposing double standard of ruling National Conference, she said that this party has always bartered peoples’ aspirations to remain in power. “To remain in power NC leadership repeatedly compromised with successive regimes in Delhi but this party always never tried to bridge the gap between people of Kashmir and rest of the country”, she observed and added that NC leadership rather widen the gap between common masses of the people with rest of the country.
She recalled how PDP-Congress regime had convinced successive governments at New Delhi to announce economic packages and initiate Confidence Building Measures (CBMs) for restoring peace in the region.
“Although we had just 16 members in the Assembly, our party had convinced successive governments at Delhi, through our convictions, to initiate some bold CBMs to restore lasting peace in this region”, she said.
She reminded that in 2002 when PDP-Congress government was formed the prime concern of the people was the security of life, property and honor which needed not just strong administrative measures to tackle but it involved changing a mind set. “Through our convictions we successfully changed mindsets of successive regimes at New Delhi”, she said.
The coalition government under Mufti Muhammad Sayeed had given a new direction to governance in order to address all these diverse issues effectively with the result that successive Prime Ministers could come here and reach out to the people and understand their problems. She recalled the historic announcement made by then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee from Srinagar in which he had extended hands of friendship towards Pakistan despite the fact that tension was all time high on border at that time.
PDP-Congress coalition had not only restored peace in the state but also created conducive atmosphere for accelerating developmental activities in the State. “It is unfortunate that the present government has not only failed to carry forward the peace process but it also wasted all the gains”, she maintained.
Responding to the demands raised by the locals, PDP chief assured the people that her party would take up their demands with the authorities concerned.
Former MLC Ved Mahajan, ex-MLA Shanti Devi, Vijay Dogra, Rajinder Singh Manhas, Narinder Singh, Gurdeep Singh Panday, Daljit Singh, H S Sodhi, Partap Sharma, Bansi Lal Thakur and others also addressed the meeting.
In the function Jasbir Singh, Sarpanch of Chopra Shop area along with hundreds of his supporters joined PDP.
Earlier Sarpanch of Malhar Panchayat welcomed PDP chief and presented her a charter of demand.
