Uproar in J-K Assembly over Guru, Rashid evicted from House

GNS JAMMU, Feb : The issue of death row convict Afzal Guru rocked Jammu and Kashmir Assembly on Monday as the Opposition demanded a debate on the issue.
Issue was taken by independent MLA from Langate Engineer Rashid who was later marshaled out from the House on the directions of Speaker Muhammad Akbar Lone.
As soon as the proceedings began Rashid raised the issue and criticised Union Minister Farooq Abdullah for his recent remarks relating to Parliament attack convict Afzal Guru. "He (Abdullah) has betrayed Kashmiris by his statement on Guru. I condemn him," Rashid said in the House.
He alleged all political parties had joined hands to thwart his resolution on Guru in the House last year. “If Azfal Guru has to pay price, why not all those who killed innocent Kashmiris are in last two decades. Why not Major Avtar Singh, who was involved in custodial killings of innocent youth”, he shouted. Members from JKNPP, BJP, NC and other parties asked Speaker Mohammad Akbar Lone to remove him from the House for disrupting the Question Hour. Some members, who also had verbal duels with Rashid, said the Supreme Court had decided the matter and the mercy petition was pending with the President and the House had no authority on the matter. Rashid entered the Well and staged a sit-in as the Speaker asked him to raise the issue after Question Hour.
As the member continued to disrupt the proceedings, the Speaker directed marshals to remove him out of the House.
Earlier Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) and Jammu State Morcha (JSM) MLA also staged a walkout over non inclusion of their resolution for debate.
As the Assembly session commenced, BJP Legislative Party Leader, Jugal Kishore asked Speaker Muhammad Akbar Lone, why their resolution to discuss issue of PoK and West Pakistan refugees has been rejected. On this Speaker said that members should not disrupt the proceedings of the House and they can raise their concerns during the Zero Hour. At this point, BJP MLAs and JSM member, Ashwani Sharma said that their voices are being suppressed and they are not being allowed to raise the issues during the ongoing session.
