GNS SRINAGAR, JUNE 3: To express solidarity with the agitating volunteers of National Youth Corps (NYC), senior leader of PDP and MLA Bandipora, Nizam-ud-Din today visited the Partap Park- where NYC volunteers are sitting on indefinite hunger strike in support of their demands. Mr Bhat sat on the dharna with the agitating volunteers and asked the government to revoke its decision to disengage services of these volunteers.
He regretted that over 8000 NYC volunteers, who were engaged in the year 2010, were thrown out of their job abruptly. He asked that if services of these volunteers were required for two years why not their services should be continued for future also. He said that government should solve this problem on humanitarian ground. He said that over 8000 NYC have rendered their services for two years and there is need their services should also be continued to utilize their experiences.
Mr Bhat said that unemployment is biggest problem in the state and it is duty of the government to provide employment to the unemployed youth of the State. He, however, regretted that abruptly throwing out these youth from jobs reflects pathetic attitude of the government towards problems being faced by the unemployed youth of the state. He said that in a welfare state, the government can not escape from its duty of creating job avenues for the unemployed youth.
Terming problem of the agitating NYC volunteers as genuine and legitimate, Mr Bhat offered all support on behalf of PDP to the agitating youth. He said that instead of adopting adamant attitude government should revoke its decision to disengage more than 8000 NYC volunteers as this abrupt decision has rendered them jobless.
Mr Bhat informed the agitating NYC volunteers that he had visited the dharna site on the direction of party patron Mufti Mohammad Sayeed and assured that party would aggressively take up their issue.
Conditions of three volunteers who are hunger strike are critical. Conditions of Sajjad Ahmed of Handwara and Tariq Ahmed of Kulgam were critical.
