Project worth Rs 64 crore under cluster programme for Artisans on anvil - Salathia

GNS SRINAGAR, July, 25- A deputation of Kashmiri Artisan Association Trade Union Srinagar called on Minister for Industries and Commerce, S.S Salathia here today.
The deputationists put-forth various demands to the Minister, including providing of land for establishment units for artisans.
The Minister gave patient hearing to the deputationists. He assured them that their genuine demands would be redressed on priority. He said that the coalition government under the dynamic leadership of Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah is committed to redress basic issues of the people and rehabilitation of the deserving artisans of the State. 
He said, project of Rs. 64 crore  under Cluster programme has been initiated under which 10 artisan clusters will be established in Srinagar city very soon and  various trades including Paper Machie, Khatamband, Wood carving, Pashmina, Crewel, Copper work,  leather work, Kani Shawl, Sozni Embroidery and willow work will be taken up under these clusters. This scheme will be extended to other parts of the State, he added.
He assured the artisans that the land will be provided to them and the process of identification has already been taken up so that they can set up their units on modern pattern and will be able to earn livelihood with dignity. 
He said that various schemes have been launched for the rehabilitation of deserved, genuine, needy and skilled artisans of the State.
He said a special card will be issued to artisans and policy will be formulated for providing interest free loan for card holders.
Mr. Salathia said that peace in the State is basic requisite for the tourism and its impact directly affects the economy of the artisan community.
MLA, Batamallo, Mr. Irfan Yaseen Shah, Director Handicrafts Kashmir, Mr. Muzzafar Munshi, President Kashmiri Artisan Association Trade Union Srinagar, Mr. Abdul Majeed Sheikh and number of artisans were also present on this occasion.
