Jammu doctor makes top in list of global Parma industry


GNS Jammu, September 17 : Dr. Surinder Singh, Director-in-Charge, National Institute of Biologicals, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, has been featured in the list of the world’s 40 most influential people in the global Parma industry, three times in a row, for his valuable contribution to the pharmaceutical industry.
Adjudged by a panel of experts of the UK Pharma magazine ‘World Pharmaceutical Frontiers’, the definitive yet diverse list includes names like Bill & Melinda Gates; President Barrack Obama; Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO; and Bill Clinton, founder William J Clinton Foundation, amongst others. The list comprises of renowned businesspersons, philanthropists, scientists, regulators and legislators.
Dr. Singh has been recognized for the valuable contribution he has made towards improving India’s regulatory system in his capacity as the former Drug Controller General of India. The magazine has lauded Dr. Singh’s achievements of launching a pharma co-vigilance program to study the adverse effect of drugs and strengthening the number of drug inspectors to maintain quality parameters in the countries from which India Imports drugs.
In the 2011 list, Dr. Singh has moved up by 5 positions over the previous year’s ranking of 34s, and has been ranked atnumber 29, owing to the significant impact brought about by him to the Indian pharma sector and the overall global landscape.Dr. Singh was first acknowledged by the publication is 2008 for bringing in regulatory stability in an extremely dynamic and even more volatile Indian pharma market.
While he currently serves as Director-in-Charge of National Institute of Biologicals, Dr. Singh has previously served at various international bodies of repute in different capacities in the past. In his career span of about 24 years Dr. Singh has to his credit 27, scientific publications, 70 biological manufacturing unit inspections and numerous assessments and trainings.
Dr. Singh completed his MBBS from MedicalCollege, Jammu in 1985 and M.D (Microbiology) from Medical College Rohtak, Haryana in 1988. Later, he completed his senior residency in Microbiology from AIIMS, New Delhi. He joined as Assistant Professor (Microbiology) at Government Sardar Patel MedicalCollege, Bikaner in 1991 and moved on to Central Research Institute, Kasauli in August, 1992 as Assistant Director In-charge of J.E. Vaccine production.  
He was Head of Central Drugs Laboratory for Vaccines at CRI-Kasauli from 1993 to 1996 and joined National Institute of Biologicals under Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, Government of India in 1997 as Scientist Grade-I, and was promoted to the post of Dy. Director (Quality Control) in the year 2004. He is currently also a member of WHO expert panels for vaccines and member of WHO Global Action Plan for Influenza Vaccines and the chairman of Biologicals committee of Indian Pharmacopoeia Commission.

PDP emerged a force in Twin border District of Poonch , Rajouri

GNS RAJOURI : The way opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by former JK Chief Minister and erstwhile union home minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayed has been emerging as a force in the border region of Poonch , Rajouri, is really a worrying situation for Congress and National Conference .
