Mehbooba pays her obeisance at Peer Dastgeer Sahib

  GNS  Srinagar , June 29 :: Peoples democratic Party (PDP) president Ms Mehbooba Mufti today paid her obeisance at the Dargah of Sheikh Sayed Abdul Qadir Jeelani RA  at Khanyar. The Dargah suffered an extensive damage in a recent fire incident. The cause of which is still unknown. Mehbooba paid her respects and obeisance and also visited the family of the Sajada Nisheen Khalid Geelani Sahib.

Citizens protest against municipal authorities

GNS  RAJOURI 29  :    Residents of Ward No 7 and 8  Rajouri  held a protest against Muncipal Committee and blocked the road near Abdullah Bridge. The speakers in this protest said that the trucks of Municipal Committee Rajouri throw garbage of the entire city including the dead animals near the residential area causing foul smell and added that with this the life of residents of Ward No 7 and 8 has become has become so inconvenience that the morning and evening walkers have stopped adopting this route. Shafqat Wani, Ishtiaq Bhatta, Imtiaz Bhatta, Ashar Khan and Javed Khan said that they approached the municipal authorities number of times to stop throwing garbage but they turned a deaf ear to it.  Left with no alternative they were forced to organise a sit-in and block the road. Editor Daily excelsior S D Rohmetra hospitalised

GNS JAMMU JUN 29 : S.D Rohmetra, Editor-in-Chief and owner of J&K’s leading newspaper Daily Excelsior has been hospitalised at New Delhi. Reliable sources told STATE TIMES that following deterioration in his condition on Sunday night, S.D Rohmetra was shifted to New Delhi for specialised treatment, where doctors advised him immediate hospitalisation. Here it is relevant to mention that S.D Rohmetra, a pillar of journalism in Jammu and Kashmir, had suffered from throat cancer few years ago. However, he recovered after strenuous efforts of the doctors at All India Institute of Medical Sciences, New Delhi. Many nears and dears along with prominent citizens of town wished early recovery of S.D Rohmetra.

Why PDD failed to recover Rs 1000 crore from Govt.departments

GNS JAMMU, June 29: While the Power Development Department (PDD)claims that pending electricity bills is leading to revenue losses in Jammu and Kashmir, but the department has failed to recover nearly Rs 1000 from various government departments and politicians in the state.  Sources said that despite tall claims by the government and even Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather from time to time that a special drive has been launched to recover the dues, but so far very few departments have cleared their bills, which runs into crores of rupees.  Even recently government has also submitted a detailed data about the government officers, MLAs, and Ministers who are major defaulters in the state.  According to the official records, PHE Department has an pending amount of Rs 362 crore while Medical Education Department is a defaulter of Rs 23 crore. Shrine blaze triggers tension in Srinagar

                                    GNS Srinagar: The Peer Dastgeer Sahib shrine here was gutted Monday but the holy relic of the 11th century Muslim saint is safe, an official said.  "The holy relic (a hair of the saint's beard) was kept in a fire/burglary proof vault inside the shrine. The holy relic is safe and has been retrieved," a senior official of the state government said.  Tensions, however, continued in Srinagar city in the wake of the devastating fire that destroyed the over 300-year-old wooden shrine in the Khanyar area.  Groups of youths pelted stones and clashed with the police in Khanyar, where a mob attacked a police station.  Police used batons and tear smoke canisters to disperse the protesters, three of whom have been shifted to hospital following symptoms of choking due to smoke.  "The youth are out of danger," a police officer s...

PAHALGAM  KASHMIR: The annual Amarnath yatra  on Monday began with pilgrims from both the base camps starting their journey to the cave shrine where Jammu and Kashmir governor  N N Vohra  offered prayers amid holy chants. "The pooja was held inside the cave shrine this morning, marking the beginning of this year's yatra to the holy cave of Amarnathji," chief executive officer  Shri Amarnath Shrine Board   (SASB) Naveen K Chaudhury told PTI The pilgrims began their journey from both the Baltal and Nunwan base camps. Earlier, inclement weather had delayed the scheduled start of the pilgrimage from the camps. Mini Bus turns turtle at Rajouri 2 passengers killed 32 injured in a Accident

Kashmir complete shutdown in mark martyrs week

Srinagar, MTT News Desk: Kashmir complete shutdown was observed to mark the commencement of Martyrs Week to remember the Kashmiri martyrs including those 122 innocent youth who were shot dead by  armed forces during mass uprising in the territory in 2010. Call for observance of the Week had been given by the Chairman of All Parties Hurriyat Conference (APHC), Syed Ali Shah Geelani. All shops, business establishments, educational institutions, banks and courts remained closed while traffic was off the road. KP organisation asks govt to increase cash relief

Kashmir gets high security number plates

GNS Jammu, June 11:  Jammu and Kashmir today began fixing tamper proof number plates on vehicles in line with an apex court order. The number plates will have a unique identification to allow the transport department to retrieve all details of any vehicle. According to Regional Transport Officer Virender Slathia, the process started in Jammu and Srinagar while other districts would follow later. Slathia said the number plates will be visible up to 150 metres and will glow at night. Initially the plates are being fitted only on new vehicles. "We will fix 150-200 plates daily on new vehicles while the plates on old vehicles will be replaced on dates to be notified later," said the officer. Jammu and Srinagar cities have approximately half a million vehicles each plying on their streets. Election not a contagious disease: Qureshi to separatists

GNS REPORT JUNE 08 :Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Liberation Party chairman Hashim Qureshi on Thursday asked the separatists not to shy away from elections saying it is not a "contagious disease".  "If they (separatists) are in the assembly, they can make their voice heard. SMS ban continues in Jammu-Kashmir

GNS REPORT ,:The ban on  SMS service  in the state continues despite state government’s  claims  of peace and normalcy returning to the Valley. The  SMS  service was banned in the region in 2010 for security reasons during the unrest and has still not been restored. The state govt was of the view that SMSes were being misused to spread rumours and contributed to the protests. Not just  SMSes, even roaming services are barred on prepaid connections. The ban on theses services have affected  the lives  of many a residents especially businessmen who demanded that the step-motherly treatment towards the state should end and the ban must be revoked at the earliest
