GNS Jammu, October 31:- To Commemorate the Death Anniversary of former Prime Minister of India Late Smt. Indira Gandhi today, several functions were held by the congress party throughout the Jammu province, while the main function was held at the party
headquarter Shaheedi Chowk, Jammu. The function was organised by Pradesh Congress Committee and attended by Senior functionaries of PCC, District Presidents, Ministers, Legislators, Office bearers of DCC Jammu, Block Presidents, Youth Congress, INTUC, Mahila Congress, Seva Dal and NSUI. The function was presided over by former Member Parliament & Senior Vice President PCC Shri Dharam Pal Sharma and addressed by former Deputy Chief Minister & Senior Vice President PCC Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma, Minister for Health Sham Lal Sharma, Vice Presidents Th. Hari Singh, S. Gurmukh Singh; General Secretary & Spokesperson Ravinder Sharma-MLC, Mahila President Indu Pawar-MLA, former minister & Senior Congress leader Mula Ram, President DCC Jammu (U) Om Chopra-Ex-MLA, Vice Chairperson SC Board Swarn Lata, President INTUC Shiv Kumar Sharma, President DCC Ramban Bharat Gandhi-Ex-MLA, President DCC Kishtwar Pardeep Parihar, Shiv Dev Singh-Ex-MLA, former Minister S. Manjit Singh. Rich tributes were paid to the former Prime Minister Late Smt. Indira Gandhi by the Senior leaders of the party. They remembered the achievements of Smt. Gandhi who was known as an iron lady for her dynamism qualities of leadership, farsightedness and statesmanship. She led the country to great heights of success in various fields and India emerged as a strong and powerful nation in the World due to able leadership of Smt. Gandhi. She was one of the most successful Prime Minister of the country who worked for the welfare and upliftment of the downtrodden and poor and brought allround development and progress of the country. Veteran Congress leader Pt. Mangat Ram Sharma referred to his association with the Late leader and the Congress party and described her a dynamic personality under whose leadership country and the congress party emerged stronger. He said that she always respected party workers and enforced discipline in the party. Mr. Sharma said that no one is above party and the party is supreme and urged Congress high command to consider the aspirations of Congressmen in the state in order to further strengthen the party. Senior Vice President Dharam Pal Sharma-Ex-MP in his presidential address, while remembering Smt. Indira Gandhi for her contribution towards the nation and congress party said that the entire party endorse the stand of the PCC President Prof. Saifuddin Soz regarding Armed Forces Special Power Act (AFSPA) and other related matters. No one has the right to contradict the president over the party line, which has been endorsed by the AICC also. Sh. Om Chopra-Freedom Fighter and President DCC Jammu (U) in his address recalled his long association with the Congress party and Nehru-Gandhi family and shared his experience about the personality of Smt. Indira Gandhi. He referred to certain recent developments and said that party is unitedly behind the stand of PCC Chief Prof. Saifuddin Soz and the Congress high command should take note of the aspirations of the party on all issues and also take note of the acts of individualism by some leaders who should realize that no one is above the party. Floral tributes were also paid by other senior leaders S/Shri Anil Chopra, Manmohan Singh, Krishan Lal Gupta, Lalita Sharma, S.R. Sudhir, Chuni Lal Bhat, Hari Singh Chib, D.S.Langeh, Jai Singh, V.K.Sethi, Inder Sehgal, Raj Bakshi, Padmani Langeh, Santosh Mangotra, Ch. Sukh Dev and others. Earlier, Senior Congress leader Mr. S.R. Sudhir while paying floral tributes to Smt. Gandhi initiated a debate on the recent political developments in the state and referred to the statement of a minister, which he said as highly objectionable and without any authority. He said that entire party rank and file was satisfied with the view point put forth by PCC Chief Saifuddin Soz. Thereafter, every senior leader who spoke, endorsed the stand of the Pradesh Congress Committee.
