PDP asks Govt to complete delimitation process before conducting JMC elections

GNS Jammu, Feb 16: Doubting intension of the state government to conduct civic bodies elections in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today regretted that instead of holding civic bodies elections in proper manner the National Conference (NC) led coalition regime was more interested in just completing this democratic exercise as a formality to get the central funds.
In a joint statement issued here today, PDP leaders expressed surprise that state government has announced to complete civic bodies elections by the end of April this year despite the fact that process of delimitation of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) is still going on. “How is it possible to complete the election process before completing the delimitation process?” they asked and pointed many areas deserved to be included in the JMC limits are still not included in the JMC. They especially mentioned fast developing areas like Bithandi, Sunjwan, Chatta and some outer areas of Sainik Colony which are still excluded from the limit of JMC.  These areas have been growing very fast as satellite colonies so such areas should be included in the purview of JMC to provide all types of civic amenities to the residents of these developed areas. PDP leaders demanded that before announcing schedule of the JMC elections, the authorities should also included these areas in the purview of JMC. They further said that inclusion of these areas in JMC would ensure properly planning and development because presently construction in these belts have been going on unplanned and haphazard manners.
PDP leaders expressed surprise earlier the state government was looking for excuses to postpone the civic bodies elections and now the government has decided to complete the whole process by the end of April this year. “Before announcing the schedule of the elections government should do the homework properly”, they said and cautioned conducting elections, without including deserving areas, would deny democratic right to the residents of many deserving areas. They further regretted that civic bodies elections were scheduled to be held in the month of January 2010 but the government was postponing it with one or another excuse but now the government was in a hurry to complete the process. “Instead of giving representation to all the deserving people, the government seems to be interested in complete the entire exercise as formality so as to get the Centre funds which have been blocked due to delay in the constitution of the civic bodies”, they observed and added that without including deserving areas in the purview of JMC would prove entire exercise as farce.
Signatories of the statement are former Minister Rangil Singh, Thakur Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Daman Bhasin and R K Bali.

GNS RAJOURI : The way opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by former JK Chief Minister and erstwhile union home minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayed has been emerging as a force in the border region of Poonch , Rajouri, is really a worrying situation for Congress and National Conference . It would be much better to say that the situation if more threatening for NC as compared to Congress as the region has always been strong belt of the former for decades . The latest example is the entry of Chowdhary Qamer Hussain of Rajouri in the party fold who was earlier associated with Congress and had contested on Congress ticket from Rajouri in 2002 assembly elections , but had finished second at  that time . Qamar is not alone in the region who joined PDP in the past some months, National Conference has already received a big loss by loosing its influential cadres in Poonch district . The example is the entry of Shah Mohammad Tantray and Shehzaad Ahmed Khan of Poonch in to PDP  No...
