GNS JAMMU MAR,01 :Minister for Higher Education, Mr. Abdul Gani Malik today informed the Legislative Assembly that about 4641 kanals and 4325 kanals of land has been indentified for the establishment of the Central Universities at Jammu and Kashmir respectively, out of which 3000 kanals and 3321 kanals stands transferred to these Universities. He said the process of transferring the remaining land is in progress.
The Minister was replying to question of Mr. Yashpal Kundal in the House. The Minister said that the job of land survey and contour mapping has been assigned to Educational Consultants India Limited (EDCIL) after which master plans will be formulated and the construction work taken up. He said at present both the Central Universities are functional in the rental accommodation. He said MA English and comparative Literature, PG in Applied Mathematics, PG in Economics and M Phil in English courses have been introduced in Jammu University whereas 6 more courses are likely being started during the next academic session. Likewise, MA English, MSC IT, MBA, MA Economics, MA Journalism and Tourism, M.Sc in Mathematics five years integrated LLB, MA Education , MA Urdu courses have been introduced in Kashmir University with 30 students intake capacity in each course.
The Minister also gave a detailed account about the funds sanctioned by UGC for Satellite campuses of two State Universities and various construction works taken up there.
Mr. HareshDev Singh, Prof Chaman Lal Gupta, Mr. M. Y Tarigami, Mr. A. R. Veeri, Er. Abdul Rashid, Mr. Charanjeet Singh, Mr. Ashwani Sharma and Peerzada Mansoor Hussain raised supplementaries to the main question for making these Central Universities fully functional with introducing job oriented courses and modern infrastructure. They also raised the issue of land compensation to those land owners whose land has been acquired for the purpose.
The Minister assured the members that all possible steps would be taken by the Government to make these Universities vibrant in the State. He said land compensation matters of land owners would be also taken up with concerned on priority.
