A convention of Congress party held at Nowpora Kalan Sopore,Participants showed their solidarity with former minister leader Abdul Gani Vakil

GNS Sopore 29 May : A convention of Congress party  held at Nowpora Kalan Sopore in which participants showed their solidarity with former minister and senior Congress leader Abdul Gani Vakil in raising his voice against corruption.
Addressing one day party convention Abdul Gani Vakil said, "My fight is not against any individual but it is against corruption eating into vitals of our society. Allegations of corrupting pouring in from any quarters must be investigated".
He said that this menace of corruption has not only ruined our state but our country as well. People, he said now have become aware of their rights and are not willing to accept corruption or corrupt.
Appreciating the role of chief minister Omar Abdullah who all along is taking notice of allegations of corruption coming to his notice, Vakil said this shows his sincerity in eradicating corruption from our state. He however regretted that some corrupt elements in our system were not cooperating and instead creating hurdles in this fight against corruption.
The chief minister, he hoped will break this nexus of corrupt people and continue to take notice of adverse reports against departments regularly appearing in newspapers. There is a need of taking notice of such adverse reports for the reason that if they get unnoticed the credibility of coalition government is eroded.
Vakil during party convention applauded the role of AICC Chief Sonia Gandhi, Youth icon and Congress General Secretary Rahul Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh in launching a crusade against corruption. Congress, he said had always fought for people’s rights and against corruption. It was towards this end that it did not even spare it’s own people and leaders like former Maharashtra Chief minister Ashok Chavan or MP Suresh Kalmadi had to face the axe.
The former minister said that similar types of allegations of corruption were also being reported in our state and system which needs thorough probe. He asked party workers to leave no stone unturned to continue their fight against corruption. He stressed upon party workers to uproot the menace of corruption which is eating into the vitals of our society and creating unrest amongst youth.
Vakil asked party workers to prepare themselves for local body elections and strengthen Congress at grass root level. He lambasted opposition for not playing a constructive role in helping government to eradicate corruption from the system. He said that power hungry opposition was not taking up developmental issues but trying to exploit common masses by raising sentimental issues. The opposition he said was deliberately not playing its role to keep the government in dark but added, “I will not rest, keep raising my voice against corruption and not let the system collapse”.
He urged the government to take special care of rising unemployment and develop new tourist spots so that more employment avenues could be developed.
Besides others who addressed the convention include Dr. Abdul Ahad Yatoo General Secretary J&K PCC Senior Congress leaders Youth Congress leader Altaf Ahmad Malik. All the leaders stressed upon strengthening congress and coalitionas well and to help the government in rooting out corrupt elements whether at political or bureaucratic level.
