Congress celebrate the birth anniversaries of father of nation Mahatma Gandhi and former prime minister Lal Bhadur Shashtri.
GNS JAMMU OCT,02:Congress today held an impressive function at Chander Bhaga Community Hall, Canal Road Jammu to celebrate the birth anniversaries of father of nation Mahatma Gandhi and former prime minister Lal Bhadur Shashtri.
The function was organised by District Congress Committee Jammu Urban under the auspices of Pradesh Congress Committee presided over by Shri Om Chopra-District President and attended

Speaking on the occasion senior leaders of the party remembered the great contribution of father of nation who led the freedom movement of the country and achieved it through non violence means. His philosophy of non violence, peace and brotherhood is becoming more relevant with every passing day as the entire World looks towards Mahatma Gandhi for guidance. The United nations has declared this day as international Non Violence Day, recognizing the contribution of Mahatma Gandhi for the World peace and harmony. The senior Congress leaders threw light on the various aspects on life of the Mahatma Gandhi and his message for the countrymen and entire mankind. Gandhi Ji gave the message of equality and justice to all. Secularism is the strength of our nation. The teachings and philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi is more relevant today in view of the growing challenges before the nation, they maintained.
The Congress leaders also threw light on the life of Lal Bahadur Shastri Ji and recalled his contribution. Shastri ji was symbol of honesty and simplicity. He was the man of high values and principles. His slogan of Jai Jawan Jai Kissan reflected his statesmanship and the respect enjoyed by him in the hearts of countrymen.
Mr. Om Chopra in his presidential address asked party workers to unitedly fight against the communal and divisive forces under the able leadership of Prof. Saifuddin Soz, in the state. He said Congress party is emerging stronger in all three regions of the state. He said that the life and struggle of Mahatma Gandhi shall ever remain a guiding light for all generations to come.
Mr. Madan Lal Sharma-MP while paying tributes to Gandhi Ji and Shastri Ji, stressed upon gearing up the activities to give a befitting reply to the forces like BJP who always exploited people of Jammu region for vote bank politics but sabotaged the cause of Jammu people. He said that 73rd and 74th Amendments would empower the grass root institutions and the party leadership is serious about this demand. He lauded the efforts of PCC Presidents for strengthening the party in the state.
Ministers Shri R.S.Chib and Shri Sham Lal Sharma also paid floral tributes and asked party workers to take the policies, programmes of the party and achievements of the central and state government to the masses.
PCC President Prof. Saifuddin Soz could not make it to attend the function in view of his pre-occupations in Srinagar in view of the proposed visit of Shri Rahul Gandhi.
