Salman Sheedi posted his point of view on Iqbal. It is very interesting indeed. Iqbal by Niaz would like to have an informed and reasoned debate on it. Here is Salman Sheedi's text:
Subhanallah and Mashallah does not work. It is an opium which only hurts nations and Pakistan is a good example where over the board religion has created numerous crisis in the country. Iqbal was a depressed totally broke failed person who used religion to get some recognition, but his ideals were tribal and arrogant. There is no truth in what he says....
Idolising Iqbal is very dangerous for Pakistan particularly youths. We need to idolize progressive, secular, law abiding citizens and free thinkers,so the nation can create better educated citizens. Iqbal Philosophy of life is based on immature religious thinking which is making the Pakistani nation Arab slaves for free. And Arab don't even appreciate it and treat them like dirt. Iqbal is one confused average poet who is liked by Mullahs, Communists and Capitalists alike. He talks of democracy and then supports Sharia Law which is totally dictatorial Mullah monopoly law. Sharia System of Laws is about giving power to an individual with all administrative, legislative and judicial powers. The ruler can not be removed even if he is in comma. (You have just watched it in Saudi Arabia where the King was in bed for ten years, but can not be displaced. King Adbullah had to wait 10 years until he breathed his last. See in Iran where Khomeini was replaced only he stopped breathing.. Although he was almost 90 years old. Both have Sharia System as their law where women have half rights than man. What do you want? Give Sharia law power to Zardari and Nawaz untill they breath last? Anyone who say he can change the law by consensus or what they call Ijtehad is living in fool's paradise. The Mullah will never allow that because changing sharia will open the flood gate of changes (because Sharia is so primitive and tribal based) which will endanger their power. So forget about changing sharia to comply modern living standards. Why to even go there. Keep religion personal (which Quaid-e-Azam wanted and visioned) because we are multi-sect country and each sect has different sharia and Fiqha. Why empower Mullah who were not even in favor of Pakistan's creation. Why deny the rights of 95% of peaceful secular Pakistanis who want to help their country and make it a developed and progressive country where everyone including women have equal rights. Sharia has no rights for women. It is only for man. Sharia and Democracy which is based on respect of life, human rights can't co-exists. Pakistanis already have a great leader as their idol who single handed created the largest Muslim country of his time through hard work dedication, faith and discipline. And by the way Iqbal was against the creation of Pakistan. Please read his letters to his own teacher Professor Arnold where he clearly said he is against the creation of Pakistan. In his 1930 Allah bad address he asked of many Muslim majority countries under Indian constitution as a confederation under British or Indian Central Govt. That is in no way a demand for Pakistan. All this hoopla that Jinnah somehow was working under the influence of Iqbal is totally unfounded and is not supported by his historians... Iqbal was a political failure during his time as president of Punjab Muslim League and only has two seats in Punjab Assembly. Folks read the history, follow the true leader not copycat Philosopher (who took German Poetry and translated it in Persian and Urdu.. Laugh out loud, who wasted all his life in extra marital affairs looking for beautiful wife.
