PDP says Assembly cannot skip duty to discuss corruption, moves adjournment

GNS JAMMU :  Piqued at the persistent attitude of apathy by  ruling alliance towards public issues of importance , the Peoples Democratic Party has again decided to press  adjournment of normal business of assembly  to discuss and debate the issue of corruption having seriously put the entire democratic system in jeopardy.
The legislature party which met here under its leader Mehbooba Mufti at her official residence made it abundantly clear that the situation arising out of latest developments in which Chief Minister and his cabinet colleagues have been slapped notices by statutory bodies  , it is imperative on the Assembly in session to debate this surcharging  issue of public ramifications.  The party felt that adjournment was the best course where the high functionaries in question could be made accountable at least , in the interest of very survival of the system , in which unfortunately the people are loosing confidence in increased measure.
It is pertinent to mention that Chief Minister and many ministers have been asked by Accountability Commission to  explain their  conduct  in the face of various charges of misuse of authority for personal and party gains.
The PDP spokesman said that the recent developments have further dented the image of the Government as  people are openly questioning its moral , legal and constitutional authority to function with tainted tools.
The party further felt that assembly will be failing in its duty if the issue of notices on corruption and misuse of authority is not taken on board and people are not kept posted with actual details.  The spokesman said while it was the duty of entire opposition to rise and restore to the people of the state their right to information , particularly on how Government is handling sensitive issues of finance and law, it is equally the duty of the ruling class to face the scrutiny of the assembly than take recourse in easy legal wrangles , which they might feel convenient for the time being.
The notice for adjournment was served on   concerned authorities as per the business rules and the text is as under:
In the wake of serious charges of misuse of office by Chief Minister and his several cabinet colleagues , which include charges of corruption against many and Notices issued on this against them by statutory bodies , the  Government’s right to function is being questioned  on moral , legal and constitutional grounds in the public.  This has created a serious situation in the state and august forum of Assembly cannot but remain seized with the issue.
Therefore , we  move that   normal business of the House fixed for 25-02-2012 be adjourned to discuss this issue of urgent public importance.
PDP expressed hope that the ruling party will come forth in its own interest and extend people the pleasure of right to know what they actually demand as in this case “ what is happening at where and at whose cost. “

PDP emerged a force in Twin border District of Poonch , Rajouri

GNS RAJOURI : The way opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by former JK Chief Minister and erstwhile union home minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayed has been emerging as a force in the border region of Poonch , Rajouri, is really a worrying situation for Congress and National Conference . It would be much better to say that the situation if more threatening for NC as compared to Congress as the region has always been strong belt of the former for decades . The latest example is the entry of Chowdhary Qamer Hussain of Rajouri in the party fold who was earlier associated with Congress and had contested on Congress ticket from Rajouri in 2002 assembly elections , but had finished second at  that time . Qamar is not alone in the region who joined PDP in the past some months, National Conference has already received a big loss by loosing its influential cadres in Poonch district . The example is the entry of Shah Mohammad Tantray and Shehzaad Ahmed Khan of Poonch in to PDP  No...

Simultaneous alliance with Congress and BJP exhibits NC’s brazen political opportunism: PDP “Offering ‘ministerial berth’ bait manifests Omar’s insecurity”

GNS Srinagar, Nov 30: Terming Chief Minister Omar Abdullah’s latest move of courting BJP as his new allies a brazen show of opportunism, opposition Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today said the National Conference has taken the political immorality to a new low by simultaneously entering into coalition of expedience with Congress and BJP. “As NC has always survived on trickery, its latest move to woo back its old allies (BJP) is in tune with the party’s philosophy of political opportunism and deceit,” PDP chief spokesman Naeem Akhtar said in a statement issued here today. He said, curiously, developing NC-BJP bonhomie coincides with the recent visit of senior BJP leader and Rajya Sabha member Arun Jaitley in Jammu. Terming Omar Abdullah’s ‘ministerial berth’ bait a desperate attempt to keep the dissipating NC flock together and fully exploit disgruntled party legislators for upcoming Legislative Council polls,  Akhtar said Abdullahs have a history of adopting ‘use-a...
