GNS JAMMU APRIL 29 : Thakur Hari Singh-Vice President PCC demanded exemption of Sales Tax on the agriculture machines/instruments used by the farming community and uninterrupted electricity to the farmers, especially during harvesting season.
In a press statement Thakur Hari Singh said that the government is charging heavy Sales Tax on the agriculture related machinery/instruments like Tractors, Thrashers, Harvesters and their spare parts used by the farming community. He said there is great differences of prices of these items sold in Jammu & Kashmir and in Punjab. The farmers prefer to buy these items from Punjab but they are not being spared by the Sales Tax authorities at Lakhanpur. This act of state government is directly effecting the farmers and also effects on the agriculture production.
PCC Vice President also demanded uninterrupted electric supply to the farmers, during harvesting season, enabling them to cultivate their crops without any interruption.
He demanded that farmers of the state should be allowed to purchase agriculture machinery/instruments from the neighboring state Punjab without charging any Sales Tax. This will increase the agriculture production, benefit the farming community and in the larger interest of the people of the state.
