GNS Srinagar, July 31: Taking a strong exception to the mysterious death of Aaqib Ahmad Bhat a water tanker driver, Abdul Razaq Zawoora Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) leader and MLA Shopian has demanded a magisterial inquiry into the incident. Report said that 19 year old girl along with her mother on Thursday reported the matter to p olice that on Wednesday night step father of the girl committed rape on her when mother and other family members were away from house to attend a function. The step father Jaspal Singh caught hold step daughter finding her alone and committed rape on her. He threatened her in case she told any thing some one he will kill him and her mother also. The girl remained tight lipped under threat and next day when Jaspal Singh went out, the girl narrated her tale of woe to the mother. After listening the whole episode mother took the girl to police station and reported the matter there. After remaining closed for two decades since militancy erupted in Kashmir Valley, a historical shrine dedicated to dead children will be reopened with a special puja marking 'Shravan Shuklapaksh Dashmi'. Kapal Mochan shrine, where  where rituals connected to deaths of unmarried children are performed was closed  at the peak of militancy in the Valley in the 90's  Located at Digam village in Shopian belt of South Kashmir, the shrine will see ancient rituals like 'Abhishek' and 'Shudikaran' of Kapilashwar lingam being performed beginning from Friday. "The shrine is being revived after two decades. Ancient rituals, including a 'maha yagh', will be performed to observe Shravan Shuklapaksh Dashmi tomorrow," Rohit Lahori, senior member of Kapal Mochan organising committee, said.

JMC amends its tender, creates confusion for contractors BY TAHIR MUSHTAQ GNS JAMMU,July 24: While establishment of modern slaughterhouse at Jagti has been facing constant delay, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) has amended its tender notice which could further create confusion among the contractors bidding for the project. JMC has issued tender on April 4, but today corporation has amended the tender notice and has  incorporated new terms and conditions for the construction of slaughterhouse.  The total project cost is Rs 20 crore, off which for the first phase, Rs 1.53 crore have been released by Central Government while another Rs 1.50 crore have been released by state government, but so far the groundwork has not been started mainly because, corporation delayed the issuance of  tenders. GNS Srinagar JULY 24: Three persons, including a policeman, were killed and two injured in separate road accidents in Kashmir Valley on Monday, police said.   A speeding three-wheeler hit constable Abdul Majeed Tantray, a resident of Handwara, at Soura on the outskirts of the city injuring him critically.  The constable was rushed to nearby SKIMS Hospital where he succumbed to injuries, police said.    A tractor rolled down into a gorge near Ourigund village in Pulwama district killing its driver Abdul Hamid Dar, they said.   Two persons, travelling on the tractor, were injured, police said. Burhan-u-Din, a 17-year-old boy, was killed when he lost control of his motorcycle and rammed it into a wall of a house in Noorbagh locality in Sopore, some 55-km from here.

GNS SRINAGAR JULY 24: Marred by the constant protests in parts of Jammu and Kashmir over long and unscheduled power cuts, state government today said it plans to generate about 3,000 MW power during the 12th Five Year Plan in the state. "Government is exploring all possibilities to tap the vast hydle power potential of the state. About 3,000 MGW of power will be generated in the state in 12th Five Year Plan," Finance Minister Abdul Rahim Rather said today.
