Centre non-serious about resolving Kashmir:Mirwaiz Umer Farooq

Srinagar, Oct (PTI) The Moderate faction of Hurriyat Conference today accused the Centre of being non-serious about resolving Kashmir issue in accordance to the wishes and aspirations of the people of Jammu and Kashmir. "Government of India is engaged in non-serious acts aimed at delaying a solution to the long pending Kashmir issue. The appointment of interlocutors a year ago was part of this policy," Hurriyat Chairman Mirwaiz Umer Farooq told a Friday congregation at historic Jamia Masjid in downtown Srinagar. He said Kashmiris are engaged in a prolonged struggle for their rights and are determined to continue this movement to its logical conclusion. He expressed satisfaction over the voices being raised for resolution of Kashmir issue within the civil society of the country. Jail for spot fixers Butt, Asif; Amir detained

London : Pakistan cricketer Salman Butt has been jailed for two and a half years and his team-mate Mohammad Asif for one year, while young Mohammad Amir will be detained for six months for their role in a conspiracy to cheat and to obtain and accept corrupt payments related to the Lord's Test against England in August 2010. Bringing to an end a trial that has spanned nearly five weeks, Judge Jeremy Cooke - who convicted the three Pakistan cricketers and their agent Mazhar Majeed for spot-fixing - announced the sentences in front of a packed courtroom at Southwark Crown Court. Justice Cooke had originally sentenced Amir, 19, to 6 months' imprisonment but had to revise the term to 6 months of detainment at a juvenile offenders' institution. Youth dies in police custody; 2 cops suspended, 15 transferred

GNS Jammu, Nov 3 ; A youth allegedly died in police custody in Gajansoo area in the border belt of the district after which two constables were suspended and 15 others shunted out to Police Lines. In protest against the incident, which took place yesterday, local people staged protests accusing the police of torturing the 20-year-old man leading to his death in custody. Officials said the youth - Vijay Kumar - was picked up in connection with a theft case from Gajansoo here yesterday. They said Kumar had escaped from the police custody and his body was later found in a field in Galbadechak area. A magisterial probe was ordered by the District Magistrate after locals alleged foul play in the youth's death. "Besides ordering a magisterial inquiry, we have suspended two constables including police post incharge Omar Prakash and sent 15 others to the District Police Lines," Senior SP Jammu, Anand Jain said.
