State Government signs MoU with Jamia Milia Islamia

GNS NEW DELHI, FEBRUARY 09 : In order to mitigate the difficulty of students from Jammu and Kashmir in finding appropriate accommodation in Delhi during their studies, The Jammu and Kashmir Government today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and Jamia, Milia Islamia (JMI) to provide accommodation to 400 students from the State of Jammu and Kashmir at PG, Graduate and School level in JMI.  The MoU was signed by the Commissioner Secretary Higher Education, Tanveer Jahan on behalf of the State Government and Registrar JMI, S. M. Sajjad and Union Joint Secretary (K), Ministry of Home Affairs, K. Skandan in presence of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, Union Minister for Home Affairs, P. Chidambaram, Union Education Secretary and Vice Chancellor JMI. JK students meet Omar, Dr. Farooq

GNS New Delhi, February 09:A group of 160 students from Jammu & Kashmir met Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah and Union Minister of New and Renewable Energy Dr. Farooq Abdullah, here today.  The youth of the age group of 15 to 24 years are on “Mission Wattan Ko Jano” sponsored jointly by the Ministry of Home Affairs, Government of India and State Rehabilitation Council, Jammu & Kashmir.  Speaking on the occasion Dr. Abdullah called upon the young students to follow the path of truth, righteousness and secularism. He asked them to take advantage of vast opportunities available in the field of education and sports in the country. Specially emphasizing on energy saving, the Minister said that it is important to conserve the natural resources for sustainable development.  He praised the initiative “Mission Wattan Ko Jano” and said that such exposures help in improving understanding of youth about the world around them. He hoped that more such programmes would be undertaken in future. 

Omar bringing entire poor population under health insurance

GNS New Delhi, February 09 :Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah today discussed the issue of expanding the orbit of health insurance scheme Rashtriya Swasth Bhema Yojana (RSBY) to the entire poor population of Jammu and Kashmir with the Union Director General of Labour, Anil Saroop at a meeting here this afternoon. The scheme is presently available to the BPL families in the two districts of Jammu and Srinagar but Omar Abdullah had taken up the issue with the Centre Government to bring entire poor population of all the districts of Jammu and Kashmir under the scheme. As a result of Chief Minister’s initiative the Union Director General of Labour today discussed the issue with the Chief Minister here. Omar Abdullah highlighted the need for covering entire poor population of the State under the scheme aimed at providing health insurance cover to the tune of Rs. 30000 per family. The scheme is sponsored by the Union Ministry of Labour and Employment and will be executed by the State Health

Soothing Santoor of Pt. Bhajan Sopori brings solace to prisoners

GNS JAMMU :The ongoing 7 th  Annual ‘SaMaPa Aalap Festival’ today presented a special concert at the Central Jail, Kotbhalwal, Jammu. SaMaPa along with its aim to revive the cultural scenario of the J&K State and its further promotion and propagation has an audience structure of more than 35000 people witnessing the festival in different parts of Jammu and border areas like Khour, Rajouri, RS Pora, etc. The festival has a softer side too attached to it, and this was seen in the concert held at the Central Jail specially for the Jail inmates who were treated to a soul stirring and soothing Santoor recital by the Music Legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori that had a tranquilizing effect on the frayed nerves of the prisoners. Jammu Kashmir recieves 9 crore under RMSA

By Tahir Mushtaq  GNS JAMMU : With most of the centrally sponsored projects to strengthen the education sector in Jammu and Kashmir are running behind schedule, state has received additional Rs. 9 crore under Rashtriya Madhyamik Shiksha Abhiyan (RMSA) for strengthening infrastructure in secondary schools.  Officials said that the money is to be utilized for renovation of laboratories, maintenance and upkeep of electricity and water-channels, teachers’ trainings, purchase of library books and computers.  Official sources said that the in order to smoothly get the funds, Education Department has been asked by the central government to submit the progress report with regard to expenditure incurred during 2009-2010 under RMSA, requirement of textbooks in summer and winter zone, details of engagements of RETs as on date, progress as on date in opening and upgradation of schools under SSA and civil works under SSA.  It is pertinent to mention here that Minister for School Educat
