Environment friendly industry to get priority in state: Altaf

GNS JAMMU, FEB 14 : The Minister for Forests and Environment Mian Altaf Ahmed today said that   the government will not compromise on the environment for the developmental activities and instead focus on sustainable development of the state.    Speaking at the inauguration of newly constructed District Pollution Control Board Office cum Laboratory building at Samba, the Minister asked the Environment watch dog agencies to take all environmental issues in consideration, while clearing the development and manufacturing projects. He said that the development, including industrialization was imperative for the economic growth but it cannot be   made at the expense of the environment which is basic for the survival of the human beings.  The Minister assured that the investors, including multinational companies coming for establishment of their units will dully facilitate provided they adhere to the set norms for the environmental protection. Innovative schemes for development of Gujjars, Bakerwals of state in offing: Sakina

GNS JAMMU, FEB 14 : The Government is contemplating to extend Insurance Cover Scheme to the cattle population of nomadic Schedule Tribes (ST) associated with cattle raring activity. This was stated by the Minister for Social Welfare and Tribal Affairs Ms. Sakina Itoo while chairing a high level meeting of officers convened to take stock of the problems of Gujjar and Bakerwal community during their migration towards higher reaches and back along with their cattle. CRRI to formulate strategy for checking road accidents: Omar

GNS JAMMU, FEB 14 : Expressing concern over the frequent road accidents in hilly areas especially in erstwhile Doda district, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Tuesday said that Central Road Research Institute (CRRI) is being roped in to conduct detailed survey and formulate report suggesting remedial measures to check these accidents. He said the institute would be asked to prepare the report within the shortest possible time. “Road accidents in Doda-Kishtwar and other hilly districts in Jammu region have remained of greater concern to the Governments”, he said adding that a comprehensive strategy is required to address this problem and CRRI is the right institute to be involved in this matter. Jammu fast becoming city of billboards, JMC sleeping

Tahir Mushtaq GNS JAMMU : The city of temples is fast becoming huge billboard, thanks to the rampant unauthorised erected hoardings, sign boards, advertisement portals in virtually every nook and corner of the city.  Despite the recent drive launched by the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) against these hoarding, walls, fencing's, electric poles, buildings even roof tops continue to be used with impunity for putting up hoarding of all types even government ones. Added to this are the small private tutorials that have displayed their hoardings at many places to attract students.  Even the roads have not escaped these advertisements sidelining the traffic rules as the visual impediments and distractions created by them could cause accidents on various roads.  “Make a round of any part of the city and you will realize that advertisements, hoardings and posters have been fixed on virtually every available space.
