Omar underlines preservation of State’s unique fauna

GNS JAMMU, FEBRUARY 03 : Highlighting the State’s rich bio-diversity and uniqueness of being land of rear fauna and flora, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Friday emphasized the need for protection and preservation of this individuality of Jammu and Kashmir. Chairing the 2nd meeting of State Board for Wildlife (SBW), the Chief Minister who is also its Chairman said that measures should be in place to minimize wild animal-human conflict. “While moving forward on development front the protection of environment, forests, wetlands, water bodies and wildlife should be underlined as an compulsory requirement”, he added and said that greening policy should be factored in every development project. “We have to preserve the treasure God has bestowed to us and protect it for future generation”, he said calling for coordinated and holistic approach to strike balance between development and protection of environment. Malik distributes cheques to the tune of Rs. 15 lakh among construction workers

GNS SRINAGAR: Labour department organized a seminar here today in collaboration with Jammu and Kashmir Building Construction Workers Welfare Board. The Minister for Higher Education, Employment and Labour, Mr. Abdul Gani Malik was the chief guest on the occasion. Addressing the seminar, the Minister said that Government has taken every step for the welfare of labour community. He said that the coalition government is committed to better the socio-economic standard of labour class. Later, the Minister distributed cheques to the tune of Rs. 15 lakh among the 76 beneficiaries on behalf of Labour department, which includes Rs. 8,22,000 under Educational Scheme and Rs. 6,75,000 under Marriage Scheme.  The Minister was informed that 2,186 construction workers are registered with the department. He was further informed that the department is providing boarding and lodging facilities to the labourers besides an ambulance service both at Srinagar and Jammu.

65 tubewells installed in R.S Pura, But non functioning

Tahir Mushtaq  GNS JAMMU, : Nearly half of the 140 tubewells installed by the government in R.S Pura, Bishnah and Suchetgarh for irrigation purpose in recent years have become non-functional due to lack of maintenance and erratic electricity supply.  According to the sources nearly 65 tubewells are not working which has created worrisome situation for the cultivators who in absence of sufficient monsoon rains this year are battling the dry spell and possible crop failure.  However officials from the Irrigation Department say that they are supplying enough water and Department has created special teams to keep track of the infrastructure created to supply water to the farmers particularly in those areas which does not receive canal water.  At present the tube wells irrigate nearly 8000 kanals of crop land in the Jammu region particularly in rice producing area of R.S. NSF stages protest against Peerzada, JKBOSE chairman

GNS JAMMU : Jammu: The activists of National Secular Forum (NSF) today staged a noisy demonstration in protest against the Minister for School Education, Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed for misusing his position to help his son qualify the matriculation examination in 2009. The NSF workers led by state president, Vikas Sharm a assembled on Jammu University campus and raised slogans against the Minister. They demanded that he should be sacked from Council of Ministers forthwith. Sharma said that the Minister had brought disgrace to the chair and misused his position to help his son qualify the matriculation examination in 2009.
