Jammu doctor makes top in list of global Parma industry

GNS Jammu, September 17 : Dr. Surinder Singh, Director-in-Charge, National Institute of Biologicals, Ministry of Health & Family Welfare, has been featured in the list of the world’s 40 most influential people in the global Parma industry, three times in a row, for his valuable contribution to the pharmaceutical industry. Adjudged by a panel of experts of the UK Pharma magazine ‘World Pharmaceutical Frontiers’, the definitive yet diverse list includes names like Bill & Melinda Gates; President Barrack Obama; Dr. Margaret Chan, WHO; and Bill Clinton, founder William J Clinton Foundation, amongst others. Jammu and Kashmir: River Jhelum Project on Right Track

GNS JAMMU SEPT  17: An ambitious project to salvage Kashmir’s lifeline river Jhelum has started to yield positive results with the Jammu and Kashmir government maintaining that the flood threat triggered by recent incessant rains subsided due to ongoing conservation measures in the river in north Kashmir. Jhelum which is a main source of irrigation in the Valley has been marred by extensive siltation in last few decades. In absence of any conservation measures, the river had lost its carrying capacity and led to blockage of its lone outflow channel in Baramulla, posing a risk of floods in the Valley. After decades of inordinate delay, the Jhelum Conservation Project was launched by the Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah, from north Kashmir’s Baramulla district earlier this year. No Fire alarm system in hospitals

157 hospitals, nursing homes lack fire safety measures in J&K Tahir Mushtaq  GNS JAMMU, Sept 17: Raising question mark over the safety measures of the hospitals, majority of the Government as well as private hospitals in Jammu and Kashmir have been found lacking equipment to tackle the fire incidents.  Sources said that a survey conducted by the government with the help of Fire and Emergency Services Department has found that most of the hospitals are poorly prepared for any major fire incident, which could be life threatening for hundreds of patients and people visiting the hospitals.  At the same time, the administration of all the Government hospitals and nursing homes was directed to equip their health institutions with the required firefighting equipment to avoid any untoward incident that results in loss of life and property.  A senior officer said that during the survey across the state, the Fire Department inspected a total of 157 hospitals including Govern
