DNA investigations: Are Kashmir’s disappeared in its unmarked graves?

By  Inam Un Nabi GNS SRINAGAR ; The Association of Parents of Disappeared Persons (APDP) has demanded an impartial forensic probe into all unmarked graves across the Valley to see if there is a link between Kashmir’s disappeared people and bodies found in such graves. This follows the ‘official’ discovery of 2,156 bodies in unmarked graves in North Kashmir by the J&K Human Rights Commission (SHRC). Activists, who feel this is just the tip of the iceberg, have asked the SHRC to document similar atrocities in the rest of Kashmir too. Last month, the ADPD issued a statement, “Out of 53 cases we submitted to the SHRC, it has been established that 49 were local civilians. The exhumations at Panchalatan, Ganderbal, Kichama, Macchil have confirmed forensically that forces have been responsible for killing civilians in fake encounters.” SHRC secretary Tariq Banday hesitates to link Kashmir’s disappeared to bodies found in these graves. “This is presumptuous.” Howev

Enquiry about distribution of solar lights demanded ;Sidiqui

GNS JAMMU  : Senior Leader Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Distt Kishtwar Shakir Sidiqui has demanded an immediate enquiry into the distribution of solar lights to the deserving villagers of Marwah Block despite of deposting of money with the RDD Block Marwah by the beneficiaries. Siddiqui informed that most of the deserving people of village like upper changer, Dehraie, Qaderna, Nowgam, Pethgam, Bhata and Kachpeth, Astangam have deposited money with the RDD block Marwah for issuance of Solar lights on subsidy basis and the names of deserving people have been enlisted but the solar lights have been issued to influential persons on the behest of the ruling party which has caused a brewing resentment among the deserving people even who had deposited money with the said block. Ban of private practice by doctors, teachers: Will it stand test of time

By Tahir Mushtaq  GNS JAMMU , Nov : Though recently High Court of Jammu and Kashmir has banned the private practice of doctors and teachers, but again the question is can this menace be eradicated from the state.  This is not the first time when court has intervened to bring reforms in the both the crucial sectors of the society which has become a big money minting sector in Jammu and Kashmir.  The private sector has always been a profitable option for doctors and teachers serving in a government set-up, which graft the disparity in salary and working hours.  But, the ban imposed on private practice of government teachers and doctors by setting aside the part of instructions contained in Circular No. EDU-PS/C/S/11 dated August 11, 2005 by the Division Bench of State High Court comprising Chief Justice F M Ibrahim Kalifulla and Justice Virender Singh has irked both the professionals.  But big question still remain will this act of court put a curb on this menace
