J&K football team beat Mohun Bagan 4-2 in second friendly

                         GNS JAMMU SEPT 11: After losing their first match, the Jammu and Kashmir XI on Tuesday turned the tables on Mohun Bagan, defeating the Kolkata-based football club 4-2 via penalty shoot-out in the second goodwill match. The match was organised by the Jammu and Kashmir Sports Council and J&K Football Association. The final score of the exciting match was tied at 1-1. A penalty shootout ensured victory for the hosts with three goals while the visitors could struck only one at the GGM Science College grounds. Earlier, during their first match on Saturday, the hosts had suffered a disappointing 0-4 defeat in Srinagar. "Today is red letter day for the football team of Jammu and Kashmir as we defeated Mohun Bagan," said R S Chib, Minister for Youth Services and Sports. The Minister congratulated the wining team for its outstanding performance and said that the motive of organising the match was to promote sports culture in the state.

Soldiers thrash policemen in Kathua

GNS Jammu, Sep 11:  Army soldiers at Kathua railway station late on Monday night assaulted policemen and injured over half-a-dozen of them before boarding a train, police sources said today. They said that a soldier at Kathua railway station, about 90 km south of Jammu, had an altercation with a policemen who objected to him unplugging the metal detector at the railway station to charge his mobile phone. Police took the soldier to the railway police station. Other armymen present at the station went to the police station and beat up the policemen. "Six policemen were injured in the assault. One of them is in a serious condition," a senior police officer in Kathua said. He added that police have registered a case against two identified army personnel -- Lt. M.U. Khan and sepoy Deepak Kumar. The army has so far refused to comment on the incident. (IANS)

People of J&K can’t be guided through remote control: Mufti Govt should focus on high end tourism, new destinations

GNS Srinagar , Sep 11: Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) patron Mufti Mohd  Sayeed has said the decisions about Jammu and Kashmir will be taken by the people of the state and their destinies can not be guided through remote control.  Addressing a public meeting at Pahalgam, Mufti reiterated that unless the peace process between India and Pakistan is redirected to J&K specific measures as had happened in 2003, the dialogue will lack meaning for the people of this state who are the main stakeholders in reconciliation between the two countries. GNS Vijaypur, September 11:Thakur Hari Singh-Vice President  PCC expressed concern over the collection of irrigation rent (Aabhyana) forcibly from farmers of Vijaypur and Purmandal Blocks. Thakur Hari Singh was speaking in the meeting of Block Congress Committees Vijaypur and Purmandal, today. He said that the farmers of both the blocks are not getting proper irrigation facilities due to one pretext or the other and they been demanding irrigation facility time and again, but the government gave deaf ear to their problems.                                                          GNS Rafiabad 11 Sept: Former Minister and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today said that Congress will form next government on its own as the people are too much fed up with coalition system and sentimental slogans of regional parties whether it is a slogan of autonomy or self rule. People are interested in the development and corruption free society but it is unfortunate that the corruption is increasing in coalition system and the development is stagnated.
