Madarasa funding leading to new controversy?

GNS SRINAGAR, Dec : The government’s claim of funding Madrasas in the state seems inducing a new political controversy with parties across the board questioning the authenticity of the claims and utilisation of the funds. A day after principal opposition PDP demanded white paper on the controversy over the release of central funds to Madrasas, the separatist leader, Syed Ali Shah Geelani, today cautioned the religious heads against the “hidden agenda of the agencies.” “We are not bothered about how the funds were utilised or who eats up the money, but we are concerned about the hidden policy which is the base of these claims. The policy can be vicious for our ongoing movement,” Geelani said in a press statement issued here. “I caution all the religious institutions within the boundaries of the state to remain cautious against this trap set by the agencies. MLA Mendhar highlights problems

GNS MEHNDER : Former Minister and M.L.A Mendhar Sardar Rafiq Hussain Khan today demanded that compensation should be given to the  people whose land has been acquired by authorities for constructing  roads. Addressing series of public meetings at village Narool, Banolla, Ari  and Surhoti of Mendhar assembly segment, Khan said that works have  been sanctioned under PMGRY but no compensation has been paid to those who land has been acquired by the authorities for these roads. Roof collapse at SMGS hospital, major tragedy averted

By Tahir Mushtaq   GNS JAMMU, Dec  : A scrap of the nurses' ward’s roof collapsed in the Gynaecology and children's wing of a government hospital here on Saturday afternoon, raising question mark over the 60-year old building, housing one of the largest children hospital in Jammu region.  Police sources informed that there was no report of any death or injury, but general chaos prevailed in the hospital for many hours as patients and officials visited the spot where the roof collapsed.  Spokesperson from the Shri Maharaja Gulab Singh (SMGS) Hospital informed that the children's ward had been vacated a few days ago for repair work.  Top officials and rescue teams immediately rushed to the spot. Train derailment Inquiry began

GNS SRINAGAR : Railways today began inquiry into the train derailment in Anantnag district last month in which more than 20 persons were injured. "R K Kardham, Commissioner of Railway Safety, Northern Circle today began the inquiry into the accident that took place on November 23," an official spokesman said. A number of witnesses were examined at Budgam Railway office on first day of inquiry, which  will continue tomorrow, he said. "Anyone from general public, interested in providing any information regarding the accident, can also depose before the inquiry tomorrow during working hours," he added. At least 20 persons were injured on November 23 when a train from Qazigund to Srinagar derailed in Kulgam district. It was the first such incident since train services were launched in Kashmir Valley in 2008. Preliminary inquiry had suggested that the accident took place because of problem in the brakes of the train.
