Shrine blaze triggers tension in Srinagar

                                    GNS Srinagar: The Peer Dastgeer Sahib shrine here was gutted Monday but the holy relic of the 11th century Muslim saint is safe, an official said.  "The holy relic (a hair of the saint's beard) was kept in a fire/burglary proof vault inside the shrine. The holy relic is safe and has been retrieved," a senior official of the state government said.  Tensions, however, continued in Srinagar city in the wake of the devastating fire that destroyed the over 300-year-old wooden shrine in the Khanyar area.  Groups of youths pelted stones and clashed with the police in Khanyar, where a mob attacked a police station.  Police used batons and tear smoke canisters to disperse the protesters, three of whom have been shifted to hospital following symptoms of choking due to smoke.  "The youth are out of danger," a police officer said.  A spontaneous shutdown crippled life in the old city areas, where traffic was di

PDP dissolves zone committee Lolab

GNS Srinagar, June 25 : Ms Mehbooba Mufti president JKPDP has,on the  recomendation of district president Kupwara Mr Ab Haq Khan  dissolved the Zone Committee PDP Lolab.  The district president shall lookafter the zone till zone committee Lolab is reconstituted. This was disclosed here by the spokesman of  the party.

Vakil expressed shock over thfire incident in shrine of Hazrat Dastgeer Sahib

GNS Srinagar 25 July :  Senior  Congress leader and Former Minister Abdul Gani Vakil today expressed shock over the incident of fire which broke out in shrine of Hazrat Dastgeer Sahib in Khanyar Srinagar and described it as unfortunate incident which has genuinely injured sentiments of the people. In a statement today he demanded immediate probe in the cause of fire and stressed upon the government to bring fore the facts before the people as early as possible but at the same time he appealed to the people to maintain peace in order to not to give chance to those forces who are inimical to peace.

PDP expresses sense of shock and loss over shrine tragedy

GNS Srinagar, June 25 :  Expressng deep sense of shock and loss over the damage caused to the shrine of Hazrat Sheikh Syed Abdul Qadir Jeelani  RA  at Khanyar today the Peoples Democratic Party said the incident adds another black chapter to the history of recent tragedies suffered by Kashmir. Amarnath yatra begins, J And K governor offers prayers

PAHALGAM  KASHMIR: The annual Amarnath yatra  on Monday began with pilgrims from both the base camps starting their journey to the cave shrine where Jammu and Kashmir governor  N N Vohra  offered prayers amid holy chants. "The pooja was held inside the cave shrine this morning, marking the beginning of this year's yatra to the holy cave of Amarnathji," chief executive officer  Shri Amarnath Shrine Board   (SASB) Naveen K Chaudhury told PTI The pilgrims began their journey from both the Baltal and Nunwan base camps. Earlier, inclement weather had delayed the scheduled start of the pilgrimage from the camps. An official of the yatra control room here said that the pilgrims were not allowed in the wee hours as some parts of the track on both Baltal and Pahalgam routes had been rendered slippery due to overnight rains. The authorities have made adequate arrangements for the registered pilgrims but a significantly higher number of intending pilgrims have arrived in Pahalga

GNS  DODA JUNE 25 : The Centre plans to formulate a new scheme for three states, including Jammu and Kashmir under which the criteria for sanctioning Primary Health Centres will be a population of 12,000 and for sub-centres 2,500, Union Health Minister Ghulam Nabi Azad today said.
