Governor, CM for conducting census of ex-Servicemen to enlarge their welfare

GNS JAMMU, MARCH : - Mr. N. N. Vohra, Governor, and Mr. Omar Abdullah, Chief Minister, today called for conducting a district wise survey of ex-Servicemen to assess their number and the area-specific requirements for enlarging their rehabilitation and welfare. The Governor and the Chief Minister were addressing the 74th meeting of the J&K Rajya Sainik Board, at Raj Bhavan, here today. The Governor, chairing the meeting, observed that such a survey would facilitate a meaningful review and prioritization of the ongoing schemes and re-orienting them, as required, for enhancing the welfare of the ex-Servicemen and their families.  Emphasizing the need for taking all required measures for re-orienting and upgrading the skills and capacities of ex-Servicemen, the Governor observed that this would enhance their employability and placements in the job market. Canal caused pollution in the surrounding localities . Vice Ppresident JKPCC express

GNS Jammu , March 03:     Thakur Hari Singh-Vice President JKPCC expressed concern over the pollution due to delay in the de-silting of Ranbir Canal and demanded early starting of de-silting work. In a statement issued here today Thakur Hari Singh said that the Canal has been closed for de-silting work but it has not been started so far. The garbage and filthy water in the canal has caused pollution in the surrounding localities of the canal, causing great inconvenience to the people. He     urged upon concerned authorities to immediately start the de-silting work, so that it should be completed before 31 st   March, 2012, in order to remove the difficulties of farming community to irrigate their crops during summer season.

PDP has changed destiny of residents of J&K: Mufti

Water mapping survey disappoints state planners

Tahir Mushtaq  GNS JAMMU, Mar 03: The much awaited water mapping survey conducted to find new sources of ground water in Jammu and Kashmir by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has found that most of the water reserves are unsuitable for human consumption. Sources said that the remote sensing technology survey carried out by the government with the help of ISRO has found high level of iron and fluoride contents in the underground sources of water found in the state.  The report says that many of the newly found underground water channels have been found at inaccessible locations, which need sophisticated technology to extract, beyond the range of equipment what the engineers are using in the country at the moment. The report was recently submitted to the government by the space scientists.  Officials said that the survey has thrown open the fact that the people will continue to face drinking water shortage for decades to come, with more reliance on the surface water r
