Work on Zojila tunnel to start in August: Akhoon

GNS NEW DELHI, FEB 16: Union Ministry of Road Transport and Highways has approved the construction of Zojila tunnel in Kashmir Valley to provide all season link to the twin districts of Kargil and Leh with other parts of the country. This was stated by Minister for Transport Mr. Qamar Ali Akhoon   after attending high level meeting convened by the Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways Dr. C. P. Joshi, here today. The Minister said that foundation stone for construction of first phase 6 Km tunnel with a tentative cost of Rs 200 crore per km, from Gagangir to Sonamerg would be in August 2012.  The Director General Roads would personally oversee the work till the commissioning of the tunnel, Akhoon informed.     He said the date for starting work on IInd phase from Baltal to Mainamerg shall be announced at the foundation laying ceremony. Omar lays thrust on pushing forward SKEWPY initiative

SRINAGAR, FEB 16  : Laying stress on further pushing of SKEPWY initiative and bringing more and more educated youth under its ambit to address unemployment crisis in the State, Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah Thursday asked the officers to sensitize the administration in this regard down the line. “The awareness and education about the scheme needs to be adequately disseminated among the youth and the flow of finances for launch of independent livelihood smoothened”, he said and emphasized on giving necessary fillip to the uptake of SKEWPY. Reviewing the progress of District Plan 2011-12 of Kulgam District in a District Development Board meeting at SKICC here, Omar Abdullah said that the State Government has allotted substantial funds under SKEWPY to provide required financial assistance to the youth for start of ventures. GNS Jammu Feb 16:-  A meeting was held under the Chairmanship of Syed Asgar Ali, MLC in which is a serious concern was felt over the callous  attitude of the Government towards the snow bound hilly areas of Districts Doda and Kishtwar. People of the far flung area like Marwah, Dachhan, Bhalessa, Thathri, Chinta, Marmat, Desa etc. are facing lot of difficulties for non-avaiability of essential commodities like Medicines, Ration, Cooking Gas, Kerosene Oil etc. as link roads connected these villages to Kishtwar, Bhaderwah and Doda towns have totally been disturpted. There is also acute shortage of drinking water and electricity. It was urged upon the Government to take immediate remedial measures and these essential commodities be sent there through air  and also link roads be got repaired on emergent basis so that the people of the far flung areas be able to get essential commodities particularly Medicines from near about towns. PDP asks Govt to complete delimitation process before conducting JMC elections

GNS Jammu, Feb 16: Doubting intension of the state government to conduct civic bodies elections in the state, Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today regretted that instead of holding civic bodies elections in proper manner the National Conference (NC) led coalition regime was more interested in just completing this democratic exercise as a formality to get the central funds. As youngsters, we’re all told the infamous story of the Titanic, the supposedly indestructible ship that sunk on its maiden voyage. We’re all familiar with the story: the ship left Southampton, England, headed for New York City on April 10, 1912. Four days into the voyage, at 11:40pm on April 14, 1912, the Titanic struck an iceberg and sank at 2:20am, “resulting in the deaths of 1,517 people in one of the deadliest peacetime maritime disasters in history." Bad luck, we’re all led to believe. No one saw the iceberg and so the infallible ship sank. Bummer… But few of us ever think that through. Forget, for a moment, the story we’re all fed.
