Empower Panchayats otherwise be prepared to face wrath of people: Vakil Congress for equitable developments of all three regions: Jugal

GNS Srinagar May 17 : Former minister and member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil has stressed upon the chief minister Omar Abdullah to immediately empower elected Sarpanches and Panches failing which real purpose of holding elections to Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir will become ineffective. He said that if Sarpanches and Panches are not empowered, they will get exploited by those elements who are all along been trying to destabilize the state government by exploiting the issue of empowering panchayats and hence if we fail to empower panchayats then we should be prepared to face the wrath of people which we cannot afford Vakil added. Addressing a party convention at Tulsi Bagh Srinagar, Vakil appreciated chief minister Omar Abdullah led coalition government for holding elections to Panchayats and described the same as a path breaking achievement in decentralizing powers. Elections to Panchayats, he said were aimed at empowering people at grass root level and have a good governance in place

Not only Ministers, bureaucrats too spent lakhs for renovation of homes

GNS JAMMU, May 17: It is not only the Ministers in Jammu and Kashmir, who are squeezing the public exchequer and spending money for renovation of their homes, but many of the senior bureaucrats are using taxpayers money for renovating their homes.  as per the official figures, between 2010 to 2012 lakhs of rupees have been spent on the renovation of government quarters of IAS offices which include Madhav Lal and SS Kapur Rs 1.96 lakh, whereas senior IAS officer Khurshid Ahmed Ganai, who is now retired,has spent Rs 4.18 lakh.  The cost on the repairing work B R Sharma's bungalow has cost the state Rs 4.47 lakh while government has spent Rs 4.62 lakh on Gazanffar Hussain bungalow for renovation.  On the residential complex of senior IAS officer, Suresh Kumar’s Rs 3.69 lakh has been spent between 2010-12.  Moreover the residence of Asgar Samoon the total expenditure was made by the government during the period was Rs 3.87 lakh and on the residential comp
