Empower Panchayats otherwise be prepared to face wrath of people: Vakil Congress for equitable developments of all three regions: Jugal


GNS Srinagar May 17 : Former minister and member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil has stressed upon the chief minister Omar Abdullah to immediately empower elected Sarpanches and Panches failing which real purpose of holding elections to Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir will become ineffective. He said that if Sarpanches and Panches are not empowered, they will get exploited by those elements who are all along been trying to destabilize the state government by exploiting the issue of empowering panchayats and hence if we fail to empower panchayats then we should be prepared to face the wrath of people which we cannot afford Vakil added.
Addressing a party convention at Tulsi Bagh Srinagar, Vakil appreciated chief minister Omar Abdullah led coalition government for holding elections to Panchayats and described the same as a path breaking achievement in decentralizing powers. Elections to Panchayats, he said were aimed at empowering people at grass root level and have a good governance in place. He said that Congress had all along been empowering people at grass root levels to meaningfully implant schemes of comprehensive development of villages in accordance with people’s aspirations. Vakil said that these duly elected Panchayats should be empowered at the earliest so that powers that be are transferred to them and development assured.
Referring to fruit industry of the state, Vakil urged Chief Minister to take immediate steps to save this vital industry which provides livelihood to thousands of people directly and indirectly. He expressed concern that no incentive is being given to fruit growers to promote horticulture and demanded to equip Doabgah juice factory with the new technology so that fruit growers will take benefit out of it.
Addressing the convention Former Minister and MLC Jugal Kishore Sharma said that Congress is determined to ensure equitable development of all the three regions of Jammu and Kashmir. He said Congress will ensure that there was no discrimination against any region and will take all steps for balanced development of all the three regions of the state and said no discrimination in this regard will be tolerated
Addressing the convention Sr. Congress Leader and MLC Haji Ali Mohammad Bhat lambasted at the opposition for not cooperating with the government to eradicate corruption but only exploited the issue for their petty political gains. He said Corruption is a menace which is eating into the vitals of the state can be eradicated only when all the parties unitedly fight against it and will ban the entry of those politicians in the party who are involved in different scams.

Water mapping survey disappoints state planners

Tahir Mushtaq  GNS JAMMU, Mar 03: The much awaited water mapping survey conducted to find new sources of ground water in Jammu and Kashmir by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has found that most of the water reserves are unsuitable for human consumption. Sources said that the remote sensing technology survey carried out by the government with the help of ISRO has found high level of iron and fluoride contents in the underground sources of water found in the state.  The report says that many of the newly found underground water channels have been found at inaccessible locations, which need sophisticated technology to extract, beyond the range of equipment what the engineers are using in the country at the moment.
