MehboobaHails SC’s intervention in Haji Yosuf’s case

GNS Srinagar, October 31: Terming Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) as a movement which restored dignity and honour of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, Mehbooba Mufti president of

PDP today said that her party has revived peoples’ faith in the democracy and democratic institutions.Addressing party workers after her re-election as president of PDP, Mehbooba Mufti recalled that there was total chaos and confusion in the whole state and common masses were gripped with a sense of fear and insecurity when PDP was formed on July 28 in the year 1999.“Our party has not only created a sense of security among the people but also set an example of good governance after attaining power in 2002”, she said and added that biggest achievement of PDP was restoring peoples’ faith in the democracy and democratic institutions. “Unlike other parts of the country, the taste of democracy was denied historically to the people of Jammu and Kashmir because National Conference had never allowed democratic institutions to be flourished in the State”, she maintained and added that due to brazenly sabotaging of democratic institutions by the successive NC regime there was feeling of isolation and alienation among people of Jammu and Kashmir.“With its assiduous efforts the PDP had restored peoples' faith in the democracy but the present Government headed by NC is brazenly trying to undermine the democratic institutions”, she said.Terming 2002 assembly elections as turning point in the history of State that help in reviving peoples’ faith in the democracy, she said and asserted that it was PDP which had convinced to the then Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee to revive peoples' faith in the democracy by ensuring free and fair elections in the State.“After 2002 there had been improvement in the political situation and mood of the people in the State because the PDP-Congress regime, despite all its limitations had provided a more responsive government than the State has witnessed before”, she said but regretted present dispensation during the last three years has reversed the whole process. “During the last three year the Omar Abdullah led regime has spoiled the situation to such an extent that it will take years for the next government to bring the situation back on the track”, PDP chief observed and added that corruption has crossed all limits and there was no governance in the state. “Every section of the society has been facing hardship due to wrong policies of the present dispensation”, she said and pointed out that even for the basic necessities like drinking water, power, health and ration people have to come to roads.“Today corruption and mis-goverance are the biggest issues before the people of Jammu and Kashmir”, she said and pointing towards gruesome murder of NC worker Haji Yousuf. “Haji Yosuf’s death has exposed prevailing greater mess in the state government as well as in the ruling NC”, she said and added that the murder had removed the lid from the mess what was being kept away from public focus.Mehooba Mufti hailed intervention of Supreme Court in the killing of Haji Yosuf and said that intervention of Apex Court would create a sense of belongingness among people towards the system.“We are proud that PDP is only party in the country which is free from the menace like corruption”, she observed.PDP chief expressed her gratitude towards party workers for electing her as president of the party. She sought support and cooperation of all party workers to fulfill agenda of the party.
