Pahari Hostel Rajouri ,A Hub Of Corruption

GNS Rajouri,   ;The district administration has ordered a probe into the large scale corruption and misuse of funds by the officials in Pahari hostel in this border district of Jammu and Kashmir.
Sources told GNS on Tuesday that acting on complaints of corruption and other malpractices in Pahari students' hostel, Deputy Commissioner Rajouri, Ghulam Ahmed Khawaja has ordered a detailed probe of the matter. Farooq Ahmed Shah, Assistant Commissioner Defence, has been appointed as inquiry officer, said sources adding that inquiry officer has initiated probe with immediate effect.
Sources said, complaints of corruption and other malpractices were leveled by students and some members of Pahari Advisory board including Bashir Ahmed Wani who is also district president of ruling National Conference in Rajouri.
During his first visit to the hostel, the inquiry officer, Farooq Ahmed Shah is reported to have found only 62 students present in the hostel out of hundred students admitted in the hostel.
Confirming the report, Farooq Shah told this correspondent that he had found only 62 students present in the hostel when he visited hostel on Monday in connection with the inquiry. However, Shah didn't divulge further details saying that the inquiry was at preliminary stage. "I have summoned the concerned officials along with records and all will come out with in few days," Shah added.
It is pertinent to mention here that as per guidelines, Rs 50 is spent on each student per day for nutrition only. As per calculations, Pahari hostel Rajouri gets Rs 1.5 Lakh per month as diet expenses for total hundred students admitted in the hostel.
However, sources say, most of the students, are encouraged to go to their homes whenever they desire with the intention to save the money being spent on them.
"Though, the inquiry officer has found 38 students absent from the hostel during his visit, but the previous record shows all the students were present in the hostel. None of them has ever availed any leave," they said, adding "The hostel gets Rs 18 Lakh for diet only per year beside other funds meant for other requirements of the students like uniform, shoes, other dresses, bedding, soap, oils and etc,"
Not only this, sources said, the condition of the hostel has also worsened due to the infighting between Warden and Deputy Warden. The warden of the hostel is closest relative of local MLA and minister Shabir Ahmed Khan, while the deputy warden has his loyalty with state Pahari Board Vice Chairman Mushtaq Ahmed Bukhari.
