The woman, hailing from north Kashmir’s Bandipore district, locals said, raised an alarm attracting the attention of her neighbors and passerby, who went inside the house and dragged two of the troopers out. One trooper, they said managed to flee. “The locals, particularly youth beat the troopers to pulp. Another trooper tried to escape; however, the youth caught hold of him again and thrashed him severely. He was bleeding from nose,” a local identifying himself as Ajaz Rashid said.He said soon after the incident hundreds of people assembled in the area and staged anti-CRPF demonstrations. The incident also led to a spontaneous shutdown in the area. The protests, he said continued for over an hour before a team from Shaheed Gunj police station arrived and took the troopers in their custody.“Three people, including two troopers are in our custody. We’re investigating the case,” police sources told State Observer. They identified the troopers as Head Constable Amit Singh and Constable Yadvinder Singh of CRPF 75 Battalion stationed at Gupkar. However, CRPF refuted the allegations of molestation by its men in the area.“The allegations of molestation leveled against our men are baseless. They had not made forcible entry into a residential house. They had lost their way shortly after they finished some work at the ATM,” CRPF spokesman, Mohsin Shahidi told this correspondent.
