GNS JAMMU: Dr. Monisha Kapoor is the first woman from J&K to qualify for super specialization in Plastic Surgery.
A Post Graduate of Jammu Medical College (2008), she has been awarded MCH in Plastic and Maxilofacial Surgery from Safdarjang Government Hospital, Delhi in November 2011.
From her early childhood she was attracted by challenges that required precision.
An alumni of Presentation Convent School Jammu, where she had her schooling, Monisha stood at 1st Rank in the all J&K Entrance Test conducted by Board of Professional Education J&K in MBBS Course in the year 1996.

Dr. Monisha qualified for M.S. (ENT) course in the Maharashtra Combined Entrance Test in 2003-2004 and joined Nagpur Medical College. Her crusade for professional   focusing did not end there, she appeared in the Entrance test conducted by BOPE J&K for PG course and qualified to earn admission in M. S. General Surgery.
After spending one year in ENT PG Course from Medical College, Nagpur she shifted to Government Medical College Jammu to join M.S (General Surgery) course. After Completing M. S. Surgery in the year 2008, she topped in the All India Entrance Examination for super specialization (MCH) in Plastic and Maxilofacial Surgery and joined Safdarjang Government Hospital, Delhi.
Dr. Monisha Kapoor has returned to Jammu as she aims at to first serve the poor and neglected people of her home State. In view of her excellent academic career she had offers from various medical institutions outside J&K.
Dr. Monisha Kapoor is the daughter of Mr. P. C. Kapoor (an enterprising Engineer) who is more known as social worker also and Mrs. Kiran Kapoor. She says the simplicity and care for the social cause that her father has been nursing has surely influenced her decision making and it is due to this that she has returned to J&K to serve her people first and to mitigate their sufferings to the greater extent.  Dr. Monisha’s service to the poor of the J&K State indeed would definitely go a long way in serving the humanity.

Water mapping survey disappoints state planners

Tahir Mushtaq  GNS JAMMU, Mar 03: The much awaited water mapping survey conducted to find new sources of ground water in Jammu and Kashmir by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has found that most of the water reserves are unsuitable for human consumption. Sources said that the remote sensing technology survey carried out by the government with the help of ISRO has found high level of iron and fluoride contents in the underground sources of water found in the state.  The report says that many of the newly found underground water channels have been found at inaccessible locations, which need sophisticated technology to extract, beyond the range of equipment what the engineers are using in the country at the moment.
