GNS Jammu :  Rich tributes were paid to Father of Nation Mahatma Gandhi on his death anniversary by the Congress party by organizing several functions through out the State. The main function of the party was held at PCC HQ Shaheedi Chowk Jammu under the chairmanship  of Senior Vice President PCC Pt. Dharam Pal Sharma and attended by senior functionaries of PCC and  frontal organizations. Veteran Congress leader and former MP Mr. G.M. Mir Poonchi, Mr. R.S. Chib-Minister for Medical Education, Smt. Khem Lata Wakhloo-Chairperson Social Welfare Board, Th. Hari Singh, S. Gurmukh Singh, G.N. Monga (all vice-presidents), Shri Mula Ram, Lal Mohd. While paying tributes, the senior Congress leaders recalled the sacrifices and struggle of Mahatma Gandhi whose philosophy is more relevant in the present day World. Gandhi Ji led the  nation under the banner of Indian National Congress to attain freedom and he taught tolerance and respect to each other’s faith and religion, as he had understood that secularism is strength of India.  The entire World draws lesson from the philosophy of Mahatma Gandhi, who gave the message of peace and non-violence to the mankind.
The senior Congress leaders said that Gandhi ji taught selfless service to the poor and needy and there is need to learn and follow the principle of Mahatma Gandhi.
Mahatma Gandhi wanted to empower the people at the grass root level through the institutions of Local-Self Government like Panchayats, so that the people become the masters of their own destiny. It is unfortunate that some forces come in the way of empowerment of people. The fruits of democracy should percolate down to the common man, which is the mission of the Congress party and it is committed to fulfill the dream of Mahatma Gandhi to devolve and decentralize powers to the grass root level, they added.
