PDP emerged a force in Twin border District of Poonch , Rajouri

GNS RAJOURI : The way opposition People's Democratic Party (PDP) led by former JK Chief Minister and erstwhile union home minister, Mufti Mohammad Sayed has been emerging as a force in the border region of Poonch , Rajouri, is really a worrying situation for Congress and National Conference . It would be much better to say that the situation if more threatening for NC as compared to Congress as the region has always been strong belt of the former for decades . The latest example is the entry of Chowdhary Qamer Hussain of Rajouri in the party fold who was earlier associated with Congress and had contested on Congress ticket from Rajouri in 2002 assembly elections , but had finished second at
that time . Qamar is not alone in the region who joined PDP in the past some months, National Conference has already received a big loss by loosing its influential cadres in Poonch district . The example is the entry of Shah Mohammad Tantray and Shehzaad Ahmed Khan of Poonch in to PDP
Not only this, sources said, some more influential people of Congress and National Conference are in regular touch with PDP leaders of the region and are expected to join in near future .
Sources told GNS that , these leaders visited the house of PDP'S founder leader of the area and also a sitting MLC Murtaza Khan and they have expressed their wish to join party . When contacted, Murtaza Khan confirmed to this correspondent that some influential leaders belonging to National Conference did meet him and they have expressed their wish to join party. " Yes some more influential leaders of the area belonging to NC are in touch with me and they have expressed their wish to join party , but I am yet to take up this matter with party high command ( Mufti Sahib) the final decision will be taken by him only", says Murtaza Khan , the founder member of the party . On being asked whether the people were joining them on the promise of mandate, he said no. " No body has expressed such wish or put any such condition. In fact, the people are impressed with the performance of Mufti Sahib as chief
minister of the state", he said adding that neither any new entrant has expressed such wish nor party can give any such advance assurance . " The people are lured by the performance of the party it has shown during its period . Moreover, Mufti Sahib has always been against any sort of political corruption and giving advance assurance of mandate or any other favor is also some sort of political corruption . We can not do so", added Murtaza Khan. Commenting on the situation, a senior leader of National Conference wishing not to be named also admitted that some influential cadres of the party are inclined towards PDP and the trend seems dangerous for the future of the party . "We cannot stop it because the cadres are changing their loyalties on seeing the mood of the voters . Our government has done nothing in the past three years due to which were are not in position to face the masses", said NC leader . He further said that PDP has posed serious threat to their party in the region . It is pertinent to mention here that Poonch and Rajouri border region has always been strong bastion of National Conference in the past . In 1996 assembly elections, NC had won 5 out of seven assembly seats of
the region . Similarly, in 2002 assembly elections, NC had won four out of seven and three had gone to Congress. While the PDP opened its account only in 2008 elections by winning two
seats Darhal in Rajouri and Mendhar in Poonch . And National Conference was reduced to three seat only out seven . While rest of the two seats had gone to Congress . Political observers is of the opinion that as per the present pulse of the region it seems that opposition PDP will emerge as the largest forces in the region in the coming assembly elections .
