Citizens protest against municipal authorities

GNS  RAJOURI 29  :    Residents of Ward No 7 and 8  Rajouri  held a protest against Muncipal Committee and blocked the road near Abdullah Bridge.
The speakers in this protest said that the trucks of Municipal Committee Rajouri throw garbage of the entire city including the dead animals near the residential area causing foul smell and added that with this the life of residents of Ward No 7 and 8 has become has become so inconvenience that the morning and evening walkers have stopped adopting this route.
Shafqat Wani, Ishtiaq Bhatta, Imtiaz Bhatta, Ashar Khan and Javed Khan said that they approached the municipal authorities number of times to stop throwing garbage but they turned a deaf ear to it.  Left with no alternative they were forced to organise a sit-in and block the road.
Since a lengthy jam was created on the main road  up to Rajouri Bus Stand, the senior officers of Municipal Committee including Mohammad Shakoor and Mohammad Farooq reached the spot and pacified the protesters.
They assured the protesters that no garbage will be thrown in this area in future.
On the assurance of Municipal Committee officers the protesters lifted Dharna and the road was opened after three hours.

Water mapping survey disappoints state planners

Tahir Mushtaq  GNS JAMMU, Mar 03: The much awaited water mapping survey conducted to find new sources of ground water in Jammu and Kashmir by Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has found that most of the water reserves are unsuitable for human consumption. Sources said that the remote sensing technology survey carried out by the government with the help of ISRO has found high level of iron and fluoride contents in the underground sources of water found in the state.  The report says that many of the newly found underground water channels have been found at inaccessible locations, which need sophisticated technology to extract, beyond the range of equipment what the engineers are using in the country at the moment.
