Disclose the names of two ministers of congress in public who attempted to stall the wheel of democracy own the responsibility of being the biggest stumbling block in decentralization of powers: Vakil to Omar

Vakil condemned suppressive action of the government to curb peaceful demonstration by youth congress for implementing 73rd and 74th amendments
GNS Srinagar 29 Sep 2012: Sr. Congress leader and Member AICC Abdul Gani Vakil today condemned suppressive action of the government to curb peaceful demonstration by youth congress for implementing 73rd and 74th amendments in the state and described the incident as unfortunate and blot on democracy. He said that Youth Congress leaders had all the right to protest peacefully but police action on them has undermined the democratic values in our state. In his statement, Vakil asked the chief minister Omar Abdullah to not to use suppressive measures for curbing the popular voice of empowering panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir state, elections to which were held after over three decades. These institutions, he said need to be strengthened for decentralization of powers.
The NC led coalition he said must come out clean with its policies and programmes to empower Panchayats so that common masses are not kept in dark. The morale of party workers and leaders, he said was still high but attempts to undermine Panchayats were not going on in right direction. Vakil reiterated his demand of empowering Panchayats and asked the government to not to confront with youth leaders who have every right to protest. He simultaneously said that such incidents were not sending right message amongst public for which a decision should be immediately taken by the government with regards to empowering Panchayats.
He said Omar Abdullah must disclose the names of those two ministers of congress in public who attempted to stall the wheel of democracy or else own the responsibility of being the biggest stumbling block in decentralization of powers. The state, he said is passing through very sensitive phase and in the given situation undermining democratic values or rights would not be in the right direction.
Vakil supported the resolve of Congress MP and AICC General Secretary Rahul Gandhi who had said that Panchayats in our country must be empowered to decentralize powers. Expressing his grievances over the killing of elected representatives, he said such incidents were aimed at demoralizing the spirit of democracy which should be checked with firm hands and the government should be categorical in informing about the culprits as the ambiguity of the govt. in this context is creating doubts and confusion in the minds of the people sometimes they blame the militants and some times their political opponents.
