GNS November 15: In connection with its on-going campaign against corruption and mis-governance of the present regime headed by National Conference, the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) today organized protest demonstrations at all district headquarters of Jammu province. Senior leaders of the party participated in the demonstrations. The main demonstration was held at Jammu which was led by PDP president Mehbooba Mufti in which hundreds of party workers were present.Addressing the workers, PDP chief said that due to non existence of a working government, the responsibility of PDP has increased manifold. The sufferings of the people on all fronts have made it compulsory for the PDP to take the route of agitation for highlighting day today problems of the common masses. Moreover by making comparison of present regime with the previous PDP-Congress government, peoples’ expectations from the party have also gone up.Ms Mufti said that present government during the last three year has done nothing to show as its achievement- be it on political, development or administrative fronts. She reminded that during the previous PDP-Congress regime, besides taking historical steps like opening of cross LoC routes and construction of Mugal road, the political process touched its new height. She further added that development of all three regions of the state saw a dramatic transformation. “All the three regions Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh got a sense of equality and justice in development and administration. “But the present government has established a mafia raj where the arrogance of power has led to total disconnection with the people, development process has taken a back seat, unemployment on rise and there is subversion in recruitment rules and process”, she maintained and further said that the government which had promised government jobs to the 8th pass, stipend to educated youth, has now asking the very same educated youth to work as daily wagers on 50 percent salary on regular jobs. She said that corruption has been institutionalized with Chief Minister’s office becoming its fountain head. The Courtiers’ fortunes zooming high, ministers and other officials making hay while the sun shine. PDP president said that due to mishandling of the situation and failure to provide governance to the people, the Chief Minister has been using all his energy to stabilize his position making all kinds of compromises which has brought down the institution of Chief Minister.Taking advantage of his insecurity, the people around the Chief Minister have been looting the state leading to total chaos adding to the miseries of people. Pointing towards deteriorating power scenario in the state, Ms Mufti said that in contrast to the improvement in the power scenario during the PDP-Congress regime, the present government has failed to provide regular supply of power to the people, despite the fact that Baglihar power project is functioning and the electric fee has been increased manifold. The present government, Ms Mufti said, has taken no new initiative in development sector, it is rather abandoning or maintaining very slow pace of mega schemes like PM’s package, ADB, NUREM, PMGSY, Tourism, MNREGA forcing the Centre to stop fundings of many schemes due to this inefficient implementation.Reiterating her party’s stand that all harsh laws like AFSPA have to go with the improvement in the situation, as was done away with POTA during PDP-Congress regime.Commenting on the issue of revocation of AFSPA, she said had the Chief Minister has been serious about it, he would have done the spade work by involving coalition partner Congress, Cabinet and Unified Command before making the announcement.PDP chief observed that by making announcement without doing spadework, the Chief Minister has used the AFSPA to divert attention of the nation from its mis-governance, mal-administration and corruption, which has got further exposed by the allegation of custodial killing of NC worker Haji Yosuf, also close associate of Abdullah family. She lamented that the whole nation has been taken by storm by a wave of anti-corruption, but both BJP and Congress have maintained a criminal silence visa vis corruption in the J&K State. She exhorted the party workers to take battle against corruption, nepotism and mis-governance to the grass root level by launching similar type of campaign at zone levels.\Prominent leaders who addressed the gathering included Trilok Singh Bajwa, Rangil Singh, Balbir Singh, Ved Mahajan, Shanti Devi, Falail Singh, Suram Singh, R K Bali, Rashid Malik, Rajinder Singh Manhas and others. At Banihal, senior former Minister and MLA Bejbehara Adbul Rehman Veeri addressed the agitating party workers.
