Coalition fighting with each other, people: Mehbooba

GNS SRINAGAR  :: Opposition Peoples Democratic Party President Monday said that ruling alliance was involved in fighting with each other and the people of Jammu and Kashmir. “From the start, this government has remained involved in fighting. Fighting each other is a separate thing with accusation of cheating against Peerzada Mohammad Sayeed’s son and corruption allegations against Taj Mohidin sahib, they are fighting with people. There is no electricity, water in addition to scarcity of ration. People are suffering on all fronts,” Mehbooba told reporters on the sidelines of party function in central Kashmir’s Budgam district. Earlier addressing the workers, she claimed the performance of PDP in coalition with Congress for a brief period had set new standards of governance that helped the people to distinguish between good and bad governance.” She said arrival of PDP on the scene had redefined the rules of politics in the state with the people getting for the first time an alternative to monopolistic forces.
This, Mehbooba said, had introduced elements of performance audit, political accountability and governance consciousness and nobody could now take people for granted as dumb driven cattle who could be exploited on emotional insecurities and hollow slogans. “Now each elected representative has to account for his or her performance and fairy tales are not going to get votes. We have to perform to win the trust of people or perish,” Mehbooba said.
Regretting that the present government could not build on initiatives by PDP, Mehbooba said the brunt of its inefficiency was being borne by the common man. Even the much hyped Panchayat elections and often repeated advertisement about their empowerment has become a cruel joke for the people who participated in the Panchayat elections.
