PDP emerged as credible voice of People of J&K: Mehbooba

GNS Nowshera (Rajouri), Aug 13: President of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Mehbooba Mufti today said that it was matter of satisfaction that PDP, in a short span of time, has emerged as strong political force in the state as well as a credible voice of the people of Jammu and Kashmir.
She expressed satisfaction that PDP’s agenda of the peace and development was now seen positively not just in Kashmir valley but in Jammu and Ladakh regions, as well where also it was welcomed as a serious statewide political force with credibility and established credentials in governance and political acumen.
Addressing an impressive public meeting organised by Surinder Choudhary here this afternoon, Ms Mufti said that after Kashmir Valley, people of Jammu and Ladakh were also treating PDP as their real voice because leadership of this party has earned credibility of people by its convictions and commitments.
“Though PDP has originated as an idea for restoration of dignity of the people of Jammu and Kashmir, the party has with inputs from various sections of opinion has evolved an agenda that it believes could lead to liberate the state and the region from decades of strife, bring a sense of achievement to its people and usher in a new era of sustainable peace and prosperity”, she said and added that overwhelming response to party from all regions of the State was a clear indication that people of Jammu, Kashmir and Ladakh were looking towards PDP as only credible political force of the State.
“The formation of the PDP in the year 1999 was a turning point in the history of Jammu and Kashmir. In a short span of time, PDP has earned credibility of the state's people. The party has emerged as the biggest political force of the state”, she said and added that it was a historical fact that it was the PDP that revived the people's confidence of in democratic institutions.
Highlighting achievements of the previous PDP-Congress regime, Ms Mufti said that PDP led regime had brought complete transparency in the governance and created an atmosphere for accelerating developmental activities. “During the last three years and half years, alienation among people has been increasing due to governance deficit and rampant corruption”, she observed, adding, present regime has failed to bring transparency and accountability in governance.
“Corruption has been legitimized in Jammu and Kashmir because those at the helm of the affairs are themselves deep necked involved in corruption”, she said and added that the names of higher-ups in the government have also figured in a number of corruption cases. She mentioned towards JKCA scam and mysterious killing of Haji Yosuf.
Ms Mufti said that a leader like Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, who has clean public image, could curb the menace of corruption in Jammu and Kashmir.  She reiterated resolve of her party to evolve institutional arrangements to curb the menace of corruption in the government and administration.
Reiterating demand of her party to open Nowshera-Jhangar and Mirpur-Kotli roads, Ms Mufti said that cross LoC trade and travel, which was result of the reconciliatory policies of PDP, needed a democratic push. “Crossing of LoC should not be confined only to divided families”, she said and added that any state subject with identity card or debt card would be allowed to cross LoC. She also demanded that banking and other facilities must be provided at crossing points on LoC to facilitate cross LoC trade.
Speaking on the occasion, Surinder Choudhary said that present regime has failed to connect itself with common people.
