Mehbooba condemns civilian killings

GNS Jammu Feb 21:: Strongly condemning the stepped up attacks by 'unidentified' gunmen on unprotected civilians, People's Democratic Party (PDP) today said the phenomenon seemed to be a permanent accomplice of the National Conference. " Whenever NC comes to power the unidentified gunman is not far behind" party president Mehbooba Mufti said here today in a statement. She said unexplained killings have become a hallmark of NC regimes since 1996.
Referring to the brutal killing of a youth Omar Rasool Kaboo in Sopore Mehbooba expressed deep grief at the loss of another young man at the hands of unidentified gunman. She said the killing came after a series of similar incidents and the outrage of the town was understandable.
Mehbooba said there should be a thorough probe into all these incidents to punish the killers and the distressed families should be helped by the state that has failed to provide safety of life to its citizens.
Mehbooba said the serial attacks on some panches and sarpanches have created panic in some areas and it seems government government is not even taking a note of the developments. She said coming as these attack come in the wake of announcement of civic polls, the attacks assume darker dimensions. "Add to that the attacks on police stations in Srinagar, the picture becomes more scary" Mehbooba said while urging the government to come out with full facts. She said creation of an atmosphere of insecurity and fear would only help the national conference and unless the government comes out with facts soon it could generate worst apprehensions of its complicity.
