PDP holds strong demonstration against LAWDA for its discriminatory functioning

GNS Srinagar, April 25 Peoples Democratic party (PDP) today held a strong demonstration against the discriminatory functioning of Lakes and Water ways development authority (LAWDA) at its office in Nishat. A large number of party workers led by District president and MLC Mohd Ashraf Mir protested against  its inability of the Lake authority to conduct its operations in evenhanded , legal and judicious manner.
The demonstrators Garowed the office of LAWDA and displayed photographes of the farm house belonging to a bareucrate that is coming up in the highly eco-sensitive Dachigam area. The placial building is being constructed in close vicinity of the world famous Dachigam sanctuary which is the house to the highly threatened Hangul apart from many other rare species.
A news paper report had shown an official car allotted to the official being used to carry building material for the house.
The demonstrators pointed out that while the LAWDA and municipal authorities allowed the influential and rich people to construct huge buildings in prohibited areas the poor were being penalized. They said there are hundreds of houses around  Dal whose roof tops have been blown away by the recent wind storm that hit the valley. These victims of the natural disaster are not being allowed even to repair their houses while the high and mighty go unnoticed either as a result of their influence or money power.
The party demanded that strict action be taken against the violators of the law and their abettors in administration. Meanwhile it also demanded that permission may be granted to all those genuine people whose houses had been demaged in the wind  storm to carry out repairs and rebuilt their houses.
