PDP submits adjournment motion on LPG crisis; gives notice on killings of Panchayat representatives

GNS Srinagar, Sep 2: The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has submitted an adjournment motion to press the government on the crisis caused by disappearance of LPG which is threatening the entire society in the state.
The government has reportedly decided to issue only 3 LPG subsidized cylinders for the remaining part of current year with a price of unsubsidized LPG cylinder fixed at Rs 920. Earlier the government had said the unsubsidized LPG cylinder would cost Rs 720. The PDP has decided to take up the issue on the House and outside as it realizes that in absence of any other alternative fuel, LPG is the most essential commodity needed by every house. Even many households have been out of the cooking gas or they are on the brink of starvation.
“In view of the recent decision of the state government in pursuance of union government’s direction to raise the prices of Diesel and cooking gas, as also the fresh directions from the state government to recast the LPG list, panic has spread across state with a grave situation arising out of that, likely to lead to public unrest as the issue concerns common man. It is therefore, moved that normal business of the August House be suspended on 03-1002012 to discuss the issue of grave and urgent public importance,” reads the adjournment motion submitted by the PDP.
The principal opposition party has also given notice for discussion in the House on recent killings of Panchs and Sarpanchs. “I intend to raise a matter of urgent public importance in the august House for discussion i.e. the recent killings of Panchs and Sarpanchs, threat to their lives in absence of required protection and empowerment which has made each one of them vulnerable and has created an atmosphere of insecurity and distrust likely to undermine the democratic institutions. The same may, therefore, be allowed at the earliest,” reads the notice given by PDP MLA Nizamu-d-Bhat and supported by Abdul Rehman Veeri and Mohammad Kaleel Bundh.
The party has observed that elections to Panchayats matured after a determined effort and participation from all stake holders in democracy and grass root empowerment in the state. Unfortunately, soon after the exercise of elections was completed and Panches and Sarpanchs dared risks, the issue of empowerment was turned into an ambiguous political debate which made elected representatives cynical about the real objective, the party has observed further. “Worst was witnessed in threats and spurt of killings of Panchs and Sarpanchs by unknown forces spreading panic….as such it demands seriousness and a debate in the august House for future o democracy and democratic institutions in the state. And above all for safety of the endangered lives of thousands of Panchs and Sarpanchs and their families,” reads the notice given by PDP.
