Sublime Santoor by Abhay Sopori ,SaMaPa Aalap 2013


GNS JAMMU FEB,02 :The ongoing disturbance in Sidra area where the 2nd day of the SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013 was to be held didn’t stop SaMaPa from organizing the concert. While the institute authorities and SaMaPa, keeping in mind the security of the children, deferred the concert by a few days, but Santoor Maestro & Music Composer and Secretary SaMaPa, Abhay Rustum Sopori decided to have a small Bhaitak concert instead and not give a gap in the festival mood.
The 2nd day of the festival featured Santoor recital by Abhay Sopori in a bhaitak concert at Namdhari Dharamshala. He was accompanied on Tabla by Pt. Mithilesh Jha from Delhi. The concert was attended by eminent musicologist and senior music critics of the country like Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra and Pandit Ravindra Misra, Musicians Ragini Rainu, Charan Singh, Ojesh Pratap Singh, Damodar Lal Ghose, Sachin Sharma, Abid Hussain and many other music connoisseurs.
Abhay selected Raga Nat Bhairav presenting detailed Aalap and Jod followed by various complex compositions in different Beat cycles like 10½ beats (Sade Dus), 9¼ beats (Sava Nao) and Rudra Taal of 11 beats. He also sand few compositions in Ektaal (12 beats) and Teentaal (16 beats) before completing with superfast Jhalla patterns. Abhay’s recital demonstrated his great command on the instrument and shades of his father and Guru, the great music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori. Abhay concluded the recital with his age old Sufiana Gharana and Sopori lineage Sufi Tarana in Pushto Taal. The audience was simply moved by his concert. Abhay’s presentation marked high technical virtuosity demonstrating various stylistic nuances like Meend, Glides, Gamak, Taan, Laya and Chandh patterns, etc. created by Pt. Bhajan Sopori. He was accompanied on Tabla by Sh. Sarit Das who displayed keen sense of rhythm and clarity of bols. Pt. Mithilesh Jha, a well known Tabla player of the country, provided beautiful accompaniment. Pt. Mishra thanked the music connoisseurs for coming to attend the concert in such a short notice. He also thanked Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, Jammu & Kashmir Police and Department of Tourism, Jammu for its collaboration in the festival.
SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013 on Sunday, the 3rd of February will feature Vocal recital by Sh. Ojesh Pratap Singh at Ved Mandir Balika Niketan, Amphalla at 10:00 am and Flute recital by Sh. Ajay Prasanna at SOS Home, Channi at 5:00 pm.

PCC General Secretary Vinod Sharma met Div. Com. Apprised about the problem of electric supply in Jammu city.

 GNS  Jammu , June 05:  A deputation led by PCC General Secretary Mr. Vinod Sharma met the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and apprised him about the problem of electric supply in Jammu city. Mr. Sharma said that there are long cuts in the electric supply in the urban areas of Jammu especially in Jammu East and Jammu West. He said that the children and old aged are falling ill due to long cuts in electric supply during scorching heat. He said that the scheduled fixed by the department for power cuts i.e three hours for metered areas and eight hours for non metered areas stands no were. There are long scheduled and unscheduled power cuts and people are facing great hardships. Divisional Commissioner Jammu gave patient hearing to the deputation and assured them that he will look into the matter personally and keep in touch with the concerned authorities for regular supply of electricity. Kashmir gets high security number plates

GNS Jammu, June 11:  Jammu and Kashmir today began fixing tamper proof number plates on vehicles in line with an apex court order. The number plates will have a unique identification to allow the transport department to retrieve all details of any vehicle. According to Regional Transport Officer Virender Slathia, the process started in Jammu and Srinagar while other districts would follow later. Slathia said the number plates will be visible up to 150 metres and will glow at night. Initially the plates are being fitted only on new vehicles. "We will fix 150-200 plates daily on new vehicles while the plates on old vehicles will be replaced on dates to be notified later," said the officer. Jammu and Srinagar cities have approximately half a million vehicles each plying on their streets. Slathia cautioned that it would be impossible to fix new number plates on all vehicles in the state within two months as directed by the apex court. The company installing plate
