Sufi, Violin and Classical Vocal music mesmerize


GNS JAMMU FEB,08 :The 8th Annual SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013 being presented in collaboration with the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, J&K Police and Department of Tourism, Jammu featured mesmerizing concerts by Sufi sensation Ragini Rainu, Violinst Pt. Santosh Nahar & Vocalist Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan. The concerts on Day 8 of the festival were held atGandhi Memorial College of Education, Bantalab, Raipur. Prof. G. Mustafa Shah, Dean, College Development Council, University of Kashmir was the Chief Guest and Shri Anil Dhar, President, Hindu Education Society, was the Guest of Honour on the occasion. He felicitated the performing artists with bouquets. Santoor Maestro and Composer Abhay Rustum Sopori was also present on the occasion and spoke about the need of having such functions on regular basis. He said that the festival acts like a sugar coated capsule which will leave its mark in the years to come creating a new generation of performers and music connoisseurs. He said music refines every being and he intends to see a musically inclined personality in every person of the State. As part of the social issue attached with the SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013, he also spoke on the Child Labour issue calling it a social evil which leads to exploitation and abuse of small children. Shri Anil Dhar praised Abhay and SaMaPa’s efforts and thanked the musicians for gracing the college with their performance. He said that J&K has a rich cultural heritage and the efforts of SaMaPa reminds the youth of the glorious ethos.
The concert commenced with Sufi renditions by Ragini Rainu who presented various Muquams of Baba Bulle Shah composed by Music legend Pandit Bhajan Sopori. This was followed by rendition of Raga Patdeep on Violin by Pt. Santosh Nahar concluded with yet another scintillating concert by the Khalifa of Dilli Gharana, the vocal maestro Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan. Earlier Prof. G.L. Koul, Principal, Gandhi Memorial College of Education welcomed the guests in his address. He said that the institute is committed in propagating the rich art and culture of the country in addition to it Education of high standards. Pandit Vijay Shankar Mishra, the Vice President of SaMaPa and eminent musicologist, spoke about the SaMaPa activities and presented the SaMaPa calendar2013 to the college. The function was attended by Maj. Gen. B.N. Dhar, Prof. B.L. Zutshi, Sh. Bihari Kak, Dr. R.L. Dhar and many students and music lovers of the State. Dr. Arti Durani coordinated the programme and Ms. Bindiya Tickoo beautifully took charge of the proceedings of the concert.  
On 9th February, SaMaPa Aalap Festival 2013 will present vocal recital by Ustad Iqbal Ahmed Khan at DBN School, Camp Road at 11:00 am and Suffi Vocal by Ragini Rainu at TRT Migrant Camp, Mthi at 5:00 pm.

PCC General Secretary Vinod Sharma met Div. Com. Apprised about the problem of electric supply in Jammu city.

 GNS  Jammu , June 05:  A deputation led by PCC General Secretary Mr. Vinod Sharma met the Divisional Commissioner Jammu and apprised him about the problem of electric supply in Jammu city. Mr. Sharma said that there are long cuts in the electric supply in the urban areas of Jammu especially in Jammu East and Jammu West. He said that the children and old aged are falling ill due to long cuts in electric supply during scorching heat. He said that the scheduled fixed by the department for power cuts i.e three hours for metered areas and eight hours for non metered areas stands no were. There are long scheduled and unscheduled power cuts and people are facing great hardships. Divisional Commissioner Jammu gave patient hearing to the deputation and assured them that he will look into the matter personally and keep in touch with the concerned authorities for regular supply of electricity.
